Description for Chevrolet Corvette 1964

1964 RIVERSIDE RED CORVETTE CONVERTIBLEStunning frame-off restoration of a very original car!Riverside Red w/Red interior, 327/300hp, 4-spd. manual transmission. The '64 Corvette could be called the "Rodney Dangerfield" of mid-years. It just don't get no respect! Well, as far as we're concerned, that shouldn't be the case! After the highly anticipated arrival of the much heralded Split Window Coupe in '63, many thought things couldn't get much better for Corvette in '64. And maybe to some degree, that was true. However, if... you look at it as a practical evolution of the design, the split rear window had to go. Today, the '63 is looked upon as a piece of automotive art. And the design is timeless. But ya couldn't see out the back! So, in '64 with the pleading of Zora Arkus-Duntov, the split was gone and in its place was a big, beautiful fastback rear window unfettered of any sight-robbing split down the center! And with that little detail out of the way, the designers at the Tech Center set about finessing the design a bit.In addition to the split rear window, gone were the simulated "hood vents”, giving the '64 a cleaner overall look. But, a real vent was incorporated into the driver's side "B" pillar which exhausted air from the interior with a three-speed fan under the dash. Pretty trick for '64! On the inside, re-designed seats with a more square seat-back were used and the dash gauges new Black faces-looking more aircraft-like in the process. Horsepower was also increased, with the hi-performance solid lifter L76 up 25hp to 365 and the Fuel Injected L84 up 15hp to 375. So, even though it wasn't the first mid-year and it didn't have disc brakes like the '65, it was still a Corvette and was and is a great car! The benefit all of this is that it's the best bargain in a C2 you can find! a win/win all the way around!Although we're always on the hunt for pristine and correct examples of every era of Corvette, we've seldom seen a '64 with the pedigree and in the condition of this one!The car was built on July, 1st 1964 and promptly delivered to Bill Allen Chevrolet in North Kansas, MO. where it was sold on July 7th 1964! This mid-year managed to stay completely original until '97. As a matter of fact, it was so original, it received the Bloomington Gold Survivor Award in '94. A complete nut and bolt frame off restoration was completed in '98 and it received a re-paint in '03. However, the car has been so well cared for, it looks as fresh as if it was restored last year! And it's striking in Riverside Red with matching Red interior! It still retains its correct matching #'s engine and is optioned with the L75 327/300hp engine, 4-spd. manual transmission, Knock off wheels, power steering, am/fm radio, Positraction rear end, back-up lamps, tinted glass whitewall tires and very rare factory air conditioning. It comes with a huge binder that includes the original Dealer Invoice, Owner's Kit, Bloomington Survivor Award, complete owner history, photos of the restoration and receipts going back almost 50 years! The car was even driven in a parade by none other than Mario Andretti! And there is a photo of him with the car. We don't think there's a prettier '64 Convertible on the market! And when you see this one, we think you'll wholeheartedly agree!
