Description for MG B 1977

A very clean example that has undergone extensive improvements. Excellent floors, inner sills, floors, rockers, with older but very nice Tahiti blue paint.
Product of an extensive chrome bumper conversion, new sheet metal, new lights, all new chrome, even eliminated the side lights...exterior is now virtually identical to the earliest and best looking MGBs. A LOT OF WORK but the results were worth it.
Lowered to pre 1975 ride height, redone front end, new springs and bushings, with the 1977's front and rear sway bars, the best handling of all Bs. And with excellent ride characteristics.
I was told the engine and transmission had been rebuilt, in my tests, zero smoke cold or hot, 150-160 psi compression (probably indicating higher compression pistons as 1977s came with low compression pistons and a mere 62.5hp), 70psi oil pressure when warm. It simply doesn't get any better than that, all with factory tolerances for a fresh engine.
And fitted with improved manifolds and a new Weber 32/36 DGV carb providing performance equal to the earlier (and faster) MGBs. Drives wonderfully.
Seats and interior panels are very good and appear to be original (probably indicating this car was cared for...I mean, IT IS 42 years old). Had new carpets a while ago. And with the wood dashboard and wood steering wheel, gives the look of a much more expensive car.
Convertible top is nearly new, has its original boot cover, no rust in the trunk, comes with a spare wire wheel, knock off hammer, jack, and the original headrests (I liked the look with them removed). All of which can be seen in the photos of the trunk.
The overdrive transmission works properly, clicking in and out quickly with no slippage. Can't begin to write how wonderful it has having this '5th gear' with lower revs on the highway, better fuel economy, and less engine wear. With the wire wheels, this car has every important factory option.
Modern stereo/CD, excellent wiring and electrics, all gauges work, front end is tight, brakes redone, and as a later MGB, has refinements such as bigger gauges, better electric and cooling systems, front and rear sway bars, power assist for the disc brakes, better controls, smoother transmission, and lots of little refinements.
The later cars were FAR better than early MGBs other than three tiny negative issues:ugly, gutless, and ill handling. ALL of which have been corrected in this car with the bumper conversion, lowering, higher compression pistons, and Weber carb with improved manifolds. The result is the best of all MGBs.
Want air conditioning? Easily installed and integrated into the dash with the factory face level air vents. Want a powerful heater for Winter driving? Again, easily installed. Want a hardtop? Can provide. These cars are readily adaptable and easily improved. Much of which I have already accomplished. And with the refinements of these later cars, in a sense, its almost like being 35% Honda/Toyota and 65% old English sports car. Not a bad combination. And among those refinements are electronic ignition and thermostatically controlled radiator fans with an improved cooling system.......MUCH better than early MGs.
It has been faultlessly reliable, I would not have any qualms about driving it cross country, and the color is unusually striking. A great overall classic sports car.
I have tried to describe this car as best as I can and have gone the extra mile by doing a compression check and showing the oil pressure. TWO VERY important things that most sellers either ignore or hide. And nothing worse than getting a car with low oil pressure or a dead cylinder.... quite a bit of extra money for an immediately needed engine overhaul.
