Looking for a classic two-seater that is not a MG, a Sunbeam Tiger or a Triumph Spitfire? Consider this 1973 Jensen Healey.
Made in May 1973 at Jensen's factory in West Bromwich, England, this is one of only 1,945 Jensen Healey Mark Is made between July 1972 and August 1973.
Dressed in Oakland Green (code AE94), the paint and trim are in very good order overall, the droptop's bodywork is straight and solid, the chrome-and-black bumpers fit tightly to the body and the engine bay is very tidy. Temp gauge is inop and hood spings are weak. The cabin floor has been replaced and the body bears new sheetmetal in sections.
This left-hand-drive model has been restored its bodywork and paint were redone by Gomez Body Shop in Chicago while all of the wiring was reworked by Auto Electric in Arlington, Illinois.
This convertible rolls on new BFGoodrich Radial T/A black letter radials, size 205/60R14 at all corners. Each tire is mounted to a factory alloy wheel. The wheels are in satisfactory order while the tires are in very good shape.
Colin Chapman of Lotus offered, and Jensen accepted, his company's new 2.0L Lotus 907 DOHC, 16-valve all-alloy engine. This multi-valve engine was the first modern dual overhead cam four-valve per cylinder engine to be mass-produced on an assembly line. those exported to the United States had dual side-draught single-throat CD175 Zenith Strombergs to meet emissions requirements. There is a new dual carburetor kit, new spark plugs and spark plug wires.
All fluids were drained, flushed and replaced. Backing this motor is a four-speed manual transmission. Additional new parts include master cylinder, brake pads, shock absorbers, front and upper and lower ball joints.
Inside, there are newer black bucket seats and carpeting. The inner door panels, dash, center console and shifter are all in satisfactory order. An AM/FM stereo with eight-track tape deck completes the interior.
Launched in 1972 as a luxurious and convertible sports car, it was positioned in the market between the Triumph TR6 and the Jaguar E-Type. A related fastback, the Jensen GT, was introduced in 1975.
Competition to this Jensen-Healey in 1973 included: Alfa Romeo's 2000 Spider Veloce, Chevrolet's Corvette Convertible, Excalibur SSK Series II, Lotus Elan Sprint and Porsche's 911.
