Description for Packard 1508 1937
1937 Packard 1508 Convertible OLD I purchased this old Packard from an 88 year old gentleman who purchased the car from the original owner and owned it for decades. I am now the owner of this 1937 Packard V12 Model 1508 convertible sedan body by Raymond Dietrich. One of 40 Packard 1508 convertible V12 sedans ever built and truly a rare car to find for sale anywhere. The car's interior leather is original front and back. the carpets. door panels. and dash are original from 1937 as well. The Bedford cloth looks great. The body is spotless rust free from new 1937 and I will guarantee any Packard collector you will not find a finer original body in a 1937 Packard 1508 convertible V12 anywhere on the planet. The car has a beautiful dark forest green Packard paint that was cosmetically restored about 25 years ago but still looks amazing. The under carriage is 100% untouched original with no restoration ever beautiful rust free as it left the factory in 1937. The V12 runs like a Swiss watch with no smoke. and nice and quiet. Please note the photographs are not crystal clear however this car looks show room high grade condition in real life. The motor has low mileage since full service. I have been told that this could be the only 1937 Packard V12 convertible 1508 with its original leather interior and a true survivor. The previous owner recently took the car on a 200-mile trip and drove the Packard up to over 16000 feet to one of the highest peaks in the United States. His confidence in the 'road ability' of the car has been proven many times. This Packard runs and drives beautifully and can be driven on tours comfortably with ease and is ready to go with all new fluids just completed. Beautiful chrome. and bright work everywhere. The woodwork is all original from day one and beautiful. Here are some items on the car listed below. Rare Lalique Eagle Head crystal carved glass Mascot radiator ornament that lights up at night with a switch on the dash. I also have its mint original chrome Packard hood ornament with cormorant winged bird that will go with this car. I also have the original scripted Packard leather accessory trunk with luggage for rear holder that will go with the car. There is a power kill switch in floor for safety at the front seat by driver for new optima battery. Packard radio. heater. and auxiliary electric fuel pump with switch under dash. Canvas convertible top covers for the top in down position. Original shop manual. Tune up system sheet. Much original documentation and manuals that will go with this motor car with all legal paperwork as seen in photos. I also have a complete extra 1937 V12 motor and transmission on professional built stand seen in photos and many extra parts the 88 year old man collected and sold me with the car that I will sell extra to the winning buyer. He purchased the extra motor decades ago and said if he ever needed a part he would have one available with the extra motor and transmission. Please note the extra motor and transmission seen in photographs is not for sale in this auction. and only will be sold to the new owner who purchases this car. Just too much too list!!!! Please call for full info before bidding. The following is additional information that I hope will help you sort out whether this is just the Packard classic that you have been looking for. While there are many Packard collectors who have favorite Packard years for their preference just about every Packard owner will agree that the 1937 Packard V12 is the finest pre-war Packards that you can drive and own. Simultaneously most Packard owners will agree that the 1937 Packard V12 convertible sedan is about the finest configuration that you can get for touring in the warm weather with the top down or traveling across country in warmth and comfort with the windows rolled up and the Packard heater blasting away and the Packard radio playing your favorite station. The Packard motor car that you see in this ad is all of the above. A better looking Packard that presents such ‘critical mass' for part of its personality and profile and would receive the respect of collectors at any major classic car show throughout the United States. I know of many deep-pocketed major classic car collectors that have Duisenberg's and Cadillac V16s but most will tell you very quickly that their favorite Classic Car is a Packard V-12 for reliability. The Packard V12 Model 1508 Convertible Sedan V-12 was Packard's largest and most expensive production-bodied car in 1937. Body by Dietrich. Series 1508. 175 bhp. 473. 3 cu. in. L-head V12 engine. three-speed manual transmission. independent coil spring front suspension. live rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs. four-wheel power-assisted hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 144. 25" With a weight of 6200 lbs. Packard earned a reputation as one of the world's great marquees. The V12 Packard's were smooth. quiet. and powerful. and by 1937. a highly refined luxury automobile only the wealthy could afford. The cost new in 1937 was close to $5000 for this model 1508 V12 shown in this add. The Packard V12 that was originally called the “Twin Six” was the flagship of the line. In 1937 Packard added independent front suspension and hydraulic brakes. 1. 00 V-12 were produced that year. Achieves say less than twenty built. Packard was one of the truly premier luxury automobiles of the day. Packard was also the first company to put a V12 into a production car. Anybody that has ever driven a Packard knows that they were always the superior production car for any particular year. Where Packard really excelled was when they came out with the 12 cylinder Packard in 1932. By 1937 the 12 cylinder Packard had been brought to the ultimate perfection and was truly an engine that could go fast and be very smooth all at the same time. In 1937 Packard suspension had been improved to such a degree that the ride is absolutely comparable to today's modern cars. In older literature I found some interesting comments from owners of the Fifteenth Series Packard Twelve who raved about the car's ‘road ability' due to the incredible power-assisted brakes. the smooth V-12 engine torque and a very light clutch that made it an amazing car to drive. The excellent engineering resulted with the Packard's having the reputation of driving trouble free for years with minimum maintenance. adjustment or repair. One gentleman wrote. “Those twelve's pull the high-speed rear end for effortless 60-70 mph cruising". A better looking Packard that presents such ‘critical mass' for part of its personality and profile and would receive the respect of collectors at any major classic car show throughout the United States.
