You have the increasingly rare opportunity to purchase an unrestored Prewar Senior Packard. This is a real three owner car, hat I purchased last November with the intention of doing a frame off restoration. I picked this car due to its originality and how straight and clean it is. Unfortunately as much as I love this car, y life has changed and I am now forced to sell all of my projects, y loss is your gain.

History

This car was purchased new in 1941, y a candy company owner in Virginia, e drove the car to work everyday until 1967. It then sat in the garage until 1974 when the first owners family sold the car in an estate auction. The second owner bought the car and transported to his home in Indiana and then later to hishome in Texas. He played with it a bi, pulling the front end off at one point but putting back together some years ago. He owned the car for 40 years only driving it from the truck to his garage once in 1974. Also an interesting bit of history about this car, t is the first 1941 160 Packard to bein the ClassicCar Club of America, have all of the paper work where the previous owner petitioned and then won acceptance into the club for allPackard 160s.

Minus a windshield wiper, ntenna, nd one front glass turn signal lens the car is all there. Every bit of the interior is there, t needs restoration but it is all present.

Very little rust and no signs of being wrecked

The Not So Good

The rust that I mentioned in the condition description, hile not extensive it is there. After having had a great number of classic cars over the years, t is easily one of the most rust free cars I have ever owned, he fender, nder the spare tire, wo spots in the floor, nd the spot on the inner fender are all that I have found it is very solid.

The paint and chrome, his car requires a full restoration and like any other 74 year old carit needs replating and paint. There are a few dents in the fenders where it is obvious that the first owner had passed his driving prime yet still drove at least for a while, one of the dents will be hard to remove. I started to sand a couple of places to check for bondo and found none, did however find some original lead bodywork from the factory where the body was welded together. part of the drivers front and rear fender are in gray primer now to cover the sanding.

Glass is decent, ut the flat glass could use replacement, he hard to find curved rear window is in great shape though, lso one tail light is cracked but glued back together.

The front bumper is split on one side, spoke both with a Packard restorer and a chrome shop the restorer said finding a replacement bumper was easy and the chrome shop said they could fixit, o either way the next owner is covered, he turn signal is reproduced and the antenna and wiper are not hard to find.

The engine does not turn currently, t has not been started since 1974. I tried to rock the car in gear to get it loose but it didn't move. I have since filled the cylinders with oil a few times to get the engine to loosen up. I haven't had time to do anything further with the engine, ut I feel it will probably need a rebuild.

Finally the previous owner had the engine out at one point, nd when he put it back in the transmission stuck in gear, ue to an odd angle when it wasbolted back in the car. Being as the engine needs to be removed for work this is not a problem, ut I wanted to make sure and point this out.

Summary

You are bidding on a very solid car, f my life didn't force me to sell it would never leave my collection. Unfortunatly my whole collection is going away, o it must go as well. I hope whoever bids on this is looking for a great car to restore, ecause it deserves nothing less. I do not plan on making any money off of this car, have my reserve set at $3000 which at that I am actually losing money on, ut I want it to go to a good home and be with someone who has the time to do what I could not.
