Description for Packard 160 Club Coupe 1941
The 1941 Packard 160 Coupe. This was Packard's very lightweight senior car - only the Duesenberg has a higher power-to-weight ratio in the pre-war Classic Era ! And as you might expect with 160 horsepower and factory overdrive. this car is perfectly suited for both highway touring and the concours show field. having already achieved CCCA senior status. It also has a distinguished chain of ownership. including Lowell Sorenson from Minnesota. and Bill Lauer from California. . This beautiful car has a number of styling advancements that foreshadow the post-war era. such as headlights in the fenders and speed lines on the fenders. and chrome window reveals. And the Chassis ! This car has a very modern driving feel. with independent front suspension. hydraulic brakes. factory overdrive. and all that 356 cubic inch straight eight power ! . It's lovely dark Packard Blue. with correct grey whipcord interior. . . This car is especially beautiful in a darker color. the chrome and stainless - which are fresh looking and beautiful - really accent the design. Note how the chrome spear goes from the forward edge of the hood all the way back around the lower edge of the roof. Brilliant! . I like this photo because it shows how straight and beautiful the bodywork is - look at the reflection on the door. and the fender. Wow! . Lovely chrome plating. and I really like the bumperguards. . Classic Car Club of America First Prize winner. and then Senior Badge too ! Wear it with pride ! . Here are the thermostatically controlled grille shutters - a Packard Senior car feature. the 120's had fixed grilles. And look how nice the chrome plating is. it's gorgeous ! . By '41. Packard. along with most of the rest of the auto industry. had gone to sealed beam headlights. These headlights are correct 6 volt units without the "alighment lugs" or bumps that most replacement 6 volt lights have. That shows a dedication to keeping the car correct. . A beautiful and inviting interior. done in the correct grey whipcord. . Excellent doorpanel. and note the doorhandle escutcheons in plastic. . Also note the excellent finish on the window surround. . Beautifully restored steering wheel. and brilliant woodgraining on the dash. All of the plastic in the dash and knobs looks like they are new. Note the heater switches. this car has factory heater / defroster! . Beautiful ! All of the gauges and instruments work. and the radio works on the stronger stations. This car is so nice I really have to reach for faults. but I noted some minor crazing at the edges of the clear portion of the instrument panel. The horn emblem has a bit of fading. too. . Gorgeous ! . Excellent headliner and sunvisors . One more view of the spectacular interior! . clean engine bay. note the correctly done wiring harness. . It runs as a 356 cubic inch Packard should - hitting on all eight cylinders. smooth. and powerful. Recent service work includes a new clutch. rebuilt generator. new voltage regulator and fan belt. The mechanical fuel pump works properly. and can be assisted by the Carter Vane style electric pump that is mounted un-obtrusively. . That's the original Data plate mounted to the cowl. . The roof mounted antenna is a great feature! . And so is the goddess of speed ! . Nice clean trunk area. lined with carpeting. . And nice solid original sheetmetal underneath. . And nicely finished underneath the trunklid. . Spectacular! Fast! Beautiful! Ready for show or tour! Offered by the Vault Classic Cars Dealership. Anaheim.
