Description for Plymouth GTX 1968
Please note that experience shows us that the photobucket of over 100 large pixel pictures posted here are in most cases best viewed and downloaded using the very latest and most updated version of the 'Firefox' browser as some other browsers and especially older browser versions are not capable of accommodating the size of the download. Over the years our clients have overwhelmingly been appreciative of our many unaltered large pixel photos posted in our ads and our feedback has been that it is very rare that a dealer will post all but the most flattering of professionally finished photographs. We prefer to post the many photos taken of the car, n sometimes unflattering but natural sunlight, n order for our prospective buyers to be able to see true and reliable images of the car advertised and that is the reason for some seemingly duplicated shots. We trust you will agree.West Coast Classics are proud to present a great example of this rare survivor and unrestored 1968 Plymouth GTX Convertible with the 440/375HP 4 barrel high performance engine, of only 1,026 true RS27 GTX convertibles built in 1968 (and only 680 in '67 & 711 in '69). The Plymouth GTX was introduced as the Belvedere GTX in 1967 by the Plymouth division to be the 'Gentleman's' muscle car. The GTX proved to be an exceptional blend of style and performance with a heavy duty suspension system as standard. Standard too was Plymouth's 440cuin (7.2L) V8 engine named the 'Super Commando 440'. This engine was rated at 375hp and buyers in 1967 had the option to pay an extra $546 and replace the 440 with the legendary 'J' code 426cuin (7.0L) Hemi engine nicknamed the 'Elephant'. In 1968, fter one year of production, he GTX was given a completely new look. A new hourglass body replaced the more box-like body of 1967 and another model, he Roadrunner, as introduced by Plymouth as a performance version of the Satellite. There were major changes made in the design of all the Plymouth B-bodies. The Road Runner's base engine was the new 383 c.i 'Super Commando V8' (renamed the 'Road Runner 383'), hile the high performance 440 was still standard in the GTX. The TorqueFlite 3 speed automatic transmission was standard on the GTX, ith it being a $206 option in the Road Runner. The GTX used the Sport Satellite trim and was offered in two models, he 2 door Hardtop coupe and the limited production and very rare two-door convertible.
In summary, his is one great daily driver, urn-key ready to enjoy today, xample of this increasingly desirable and low production and increasingly collectible 1968 Plymouth GTX 440/375HP V8 Convertible! A sure-fire investment that's sure to appreciate over the years for any classic American sixties muscle car enthusiast or a perfect restoration project for the Mopar enthusiast to fully restore whilst driving!
