Description for Plymouth GTX 1968
The exterior moldings consisted of wide sill moldings (order code 529, $20.45), drip rail moldings (order code 535, $11.80), and wheel lip moldings (order code 548). The interior received a pair of bucket seats sheathed in a light blue sport grade trim. An optional AM radio (order code 421, $61.55) pumped out the tunes to a standard front speaker (included with the radio) and optional rear seat speaker (order code 426, $14.05). The GTX’s instrument cluster received the optional tachometer (order code 577, $48.70) to monitor the high revving elephant (490 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm and 425 hp at 5000 rpm) hidden under the special sculpted hood embossed with the insert symbols – “HEMI”. To match the whoa with the go, the GTX was equipped with power brakes (order code 451, $41.75) and front disc brakes (order code 479, $72.95).It was built on December 31, 1967, and this RS23 (2-door hardtop) had a base price of $3,350. Order code 73(a) ($604.75 option) was checked on the build sheet, and the GTX was equipped with the big 426 Hemi sporting a pair of Carter AFB carburetors, the required 26 inch radiator, and an engine oil cooler. Attached to the Hemi was a Torqueflite 727 (order code 395, $227.05) stirred via an optional console (order code 486, $52.85) and console mounted shifter. An 8 ¾” (order code 285) rear end packed with standard 3.23:1 gears, and an optional Sure-Grip (order code 408, $42.35) differential transferred the drivetrain’s torque to the rolling stock consisting of five (including the spare tire) F70-15 Red Streak tires (order code 45, $70.70). The tires wrapped 15” steel wheels that were covered by deluxe wheel covers (order code 581, $24.60). The GTX was sprayed in a Monotone Dark Blue Metallic hue with Light Blue Metallic upper door frame color.
