PPI's WELCOME OFFERS WELCOME! Evolve Motors & Chicago Car Club are pleased to present this 1953 Plymouth Cranbrook Coupe! Interested parties - reach out, we have a video documenting the "barn find" of this car that we'll send your way! We purchased this '53 Plymouth Coupe out of a small collection in Chicago that was being liquidated following the owner's passing in late 2015. There the car had sat stationary in a dry warehouse for the better part of the last three decades. Since taking possession we have taken the initial steps of getting the car road-ready; we have removed and cleaned the fuel tank, lines, and fuel pump, repaired the sending unit, rebuilt the carburetor, and repaired the wiring harness. We also changed the oil and filter, fuel filter, and flushed the brake fluid and coolant, in addition to doing a thorough interior and exterior cleaning and de-stinking. The car now runs, drives, and stops. The tires need to be replaced due to significant dry rot and old age. We'd consider this car a little bit of a project, but the brunt of the work is now done and this car is ready for the next owner to really take it to the next level. The exterior has its fair share of blemishes; please take a look through the photos and video, as the car is documented in detail. We absolutely love the two-tone green over green color combination of this car. It's eye-catching to say the least. The body is in quite good shape, with the only dents or dings to note being on the chrome hubcaps. Paint is a respray, as indicated by 6.0-8.0 readings from an elcometer around the car. Paint is cracking along the rocker on the driver's side. The pinstripes are one of our favorite things about this car, though they are beginning to peel in a few spots. Chrome isn't rusty but does not have a perfect mirror-like finish. You sure don't see interiors like this anymore. Green, green, green. Velour seats are in good shape, with nothing more than some slight wear on the front seat bottoms. The pictures hardly do it justice, the green interior really pops in person. Velour on the door panels and headliner is in nice shape as well. Dash is body-colored, and matches the steering wheel. Roll up windows track nicely. Interior powered systems like fan and lights are not functional. The car does run, drive, shift, and stop. It even still retains its 217cid Straight-6, #P24268784, which we believe to be original. Odometer reads 02640, which we assume to be 102,640 miles. As this car is a '53, it has the hybrid manual transmission, meaning that the clutch only needs to be used for engaging first gear; when shifting into second and third the driver need not clutch in. While I wouldn't consider it a reliable routine driver quite yet, the car does seem to run quite well. It does not dump excess smoke, it idles low and steady, and doesn't make any noises of concern. Since pulling the fuel tank and rebuilding the carburetor a few weeks ago, we have driven the car less than five miles. The underbody is quite dry. There is some through rust on the exhaust, but the frame rails and floors are in nice shape. No structural concerns whatsoever. Overall, this is an interesting, hard-to-come-by car that should not need much to be an awesome driver.
