Introduced in1967. the GTX  was Plymouths performance model for the muscle car market. Based on the 2-door Belvedere hardtop. the "NEW" GTX came equipped with simulated hood scoops. a special grille and tail panel as well as the "PIT STOP" chrome gas cap. The GTX also boasted excellent handling being equiped with six-leaf rear springs. heavy duty shocks. torsion bars and ball joints. This true "RS" code GTX is powered by correct "L" code 440ci - 4Barrel - High Performance 375hp engine which Plymouth called the "SUPER COMMANDO 440". This GTX was built at the Lynch Road plant in Michigan on Nov. 15. 1966 and the casting date of the block is 7/66 (July 1966) and casting number is 2536430-6. The front of the block is clearly stamped "HP-440" which is very important when determining that this big block is a real 375hp "SUPER COMMANDO 440" VIN DECODES AS FOLLOWSR - BELVEDERES - GTX23 - 2 DOOR HARDTOP COUPE L - 440 V-8 HIGH PERFORMANCE 4 - BL  -375hp7 - 19671 - DETROIT MI150193 - PRODUCTION SEQUENCE NUMBER As the trim tag shows us this beautiful classic started life as a light blue metallic car (Paint code "DD1") and has had a very nice repaint in it's current color of torch red. you would never guess that this was not a factory red car as the color change was done correctly. This Mopar muscle machine runs as well as it looks and is a pleasure to drive with power steering not to mention cold air conditioning (New style 134a).
