Description for Plymouth Volare 1976
Here it is, the fabulous 1976 Plymouth Volaré Premier Station Wagon!!
This gorgeous wagon was the Chrysler Corporation's first attempt at a mid-size family vehicle, and as such won the Motor Trend Car of the Year for 1976, boasting advances in Design, Engineering Excellence, Efficiency, Safety, Value and Performance of Intended Function!
This particular wagon has so much more life in it and given the rarity of the Volaré it's a real treat to see it in such good condition!
This car rolled off the assembly line at the Chrysler manufacturing plant in Saint Louis, Missouri in 1976, and was shipped by rail all the way over to San Francisco, California. There a nice lady named Pamela Grant bought the car and used it for her family, clearly she was very strict on the kids given the absolutely incredible condition of the carpet, and beautiful Corinthianleather! The car sat for some 30 years in her garage in San Francisco, only to be discovered and bought by the guy who I purchased it from!
Now you're probably wondering, how did this California cruising wagon end up here in Denver, Colorado? The answer? I drove it here!!! That's right, I saw it out in San Francisco and contacted the gentleman, spoke over the phone, and worked out a deal. Couldn't get on a plane fast enough out there! I flew in to California, met him, paid, and drove it down Lombard Street (the crookedest street in the world!) and over the Golden Gate Bridge for fun! Then, I made the journey back home to Wheat Ridge, Colorado!
I have to say, this car 100% performed perfectly! I drove to Danville California, stayed the night with my in-laws, left at 6AM, drove straight to Salt Lake City, stayed the night, got up at 6AM, and made the final leg home! No issues, no problems. Naturally the big Chrysler 318 V8 engine ate a few quarts of oil over it's almost 1,400 mile trip, but nothing else! Started up, stopped, drove like a dream.
This wagon was bought as an upgraded version compared to the standard Volaré, this is the sleek Premier version! Meaning that this car has: attached fender turn light signals, luggage rack, Plymouth division hood ornament, wood, panelling, two locking side compartments in the back, and special Plymouth division dog dish style police hubcaps! Since I have gotten this beautiful station wagon, I have added a few things to really make this time capsule shine, I have managed to find an original Chrysler AM/FM radio and replace the factory AM radio which turns out was incredibly hard to find a 1976 Chrysler FM radio, found an original Chrysler Volaré dashboard clock and installed it, recharge the AC (which thankfully was converted from R12 to R134a in the 1990's sometime), replace the fuel line, replace the AC compressor, and have the headlights looked at. I have an amazing mechanic. The car is in incredible condition, but could use a few things, correct size tires, an alignment, and repaint a sun baked piece of plastic. Other than that, she's a real dream.
The odometer reads 98,351 miles, and has not rolled over. I myself put close to 1,400 miles on the trip back to Colorado and it was an amazing ride. There are no cracks in the dashboard, headliner, steering wheel, or any major pieces of the car. The windows have been tinted, super dark and reflective of all sunlight, I managed to find an original cupholder set to go with the car, and it is as clean as a whistle. Additionally, this car passed Smog testing in San Francisco and passed here in Colorado! Classic car insurance is very affordable and in Colorado you can register it for 5 years! Wow!
She comes with a bunch of additional items as well! A $300 car cover, which has yet to be used, a towing package at the back, original Volaré hubcaps, towing side view mirrors, locking gas cap, original 1976-1977 owners manual and emissions, 4 sets of keys, original Plymouth emblem for the hatch on the back, quite possibly the original spare tire, tire jack, Mopar Volare clock box, and a few other goodies!
The thing about these beautiful station wagons is that they were used to death by families and destroyed... Very few examples exist anymore, they just weren't thought about... The real tragedy of these cars is that they weren't saved, and so many people have found memories of these! Family vacations, Christmases, piling in for drive in movies, trips to the lake, make out sessions in the back... the station wagon was king! This is a relic of a more simple time, and yet full of style and class.
This wagon gives you all the feeling of a true throwback, hand crank windows, passenger side ashtrays, fine smooth faux leather, comfortable roomy bench seats! The wagon has so much room to be anything, the family cruiser, the camping wagon, surfing woodie, the possibilities are endless!
I am asking $5,000 for this gorgeous wagon, a true piece of history, but I am always open to offers! I welcome all questions, would be delighted to take more pictures, and am happy to show the car and take it for a spin, she always gets looks and comments! My number is 303-250-9810, feel free to call, text, message me absolutely any time, I'm always available!
To anyone looking outside of Colorado, I am only 25 minutes from Denver International Airport and I am always available during the day to show the car as I work overnights! Consider a trip to beautiful Colorado for this rare beauty, and drive her back to your home! I would be happy to store the car for as long as needed or help you coordinate picking it up and shipping it to you, it's really no trouble!
