Description for Plymouth Other 1970
Matching-numbers 383. Two tag car loaded with options including factory A/C, power windows, AM/8-track, and more. Restored, beautifully finished, and very fun to drive. The ‘Cuda you’ve always wanted at a price that won’t break the bank. The Top Banana paint is quite nicely done over some very straight bodywork, and it appears to be wearing all its original sheetmetal, including quarters. There’s just the right amount of aggression with fog lights under the bumper and twin nostrils on the hood, but graphics are limited to the ‘383’ hockey sticks on the quarters, which is how it should be. You’ll note other great features like the optional sport mirrors, fender-mounted turn signals, hood pins, and during the restoration a factory-style Go-Wing was installed in place of the original luggage rack—good choice! We really like the ultra-clean shape on this fish and the satin black insert on the tail is a great touch when you’re building a performance car. Nobody can argue that this isn’t a great-looking car and that is certainly confirmed by the way it stops traffic in our showroom.
This car features a rather unusual split bench with a factory “buddy seat†in the center. It looks like buckets, but we can’t ever recall seeing a car spec’d like this. Most of the stuff inside the car was new when the car was restored about 10 years ago, including seat covers, carpets, door panels, and the wood appliques on the dashboard. It does appear that the woodgrained steering wheel is original and a little faded, but that’s a minor complaint that’s only noticeable because everything else is in such great shape. The gauges are bright and clear and they all work as they should, and you’ll find options like power windows, factory A/C (needs to be serviced), and an unusual rear defroster, which is nothing more than a fan that blows interior air on the rear window. There’s also a factory AM/8-track radio which features Chrysler’s familiar vertical roller knobs. Seat belts were replaced, the back seat looks like new, and there are custom embroidered floor mats to protect the carpets. In back, the trunk is neatly finished with a reproduction mat and matching full-sized spare tire assembly.
In the hardware department, this ‘Cuda delivers on its intimidating look with its original, numbers-matching 383 cubic inch V8. With a 4-barrel carburetor and dual exhaust, it’s rated at a rather stout 335 horsepower, making this ‘Cuda every bit a match for any of its pony car competitors. We like the 383 because it makes big block torque but doesn’t mind revving a bit, and it’s always well-behaved. Internally, it’s still stock, so it has plenty of punch at any speed and that silky smoothness that defines Chrysler big block V8s. It’s nicely finished with a factory dual snorkel air cleaner, finned valve covers from Mopar Performance, and a highly detailed look that we find appealing. And the way it runs will more than live up to the aggressive look. It barks to life easily, snarls at idle, and pulls like a freight train. This is one ‘Cuda that delivers the goods.
The matching-numbers TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic is virtually indestructible and seems to fit with the ‘Cuda’s split personality, although the 3.55 gears out back make it punchy as hell around town—you’ll need something significant to beat this car on the roll. The suspension and brakes are fully rebuilt, the floor pans are in fantastic condition with just a light dusting of undercoating, and all the lines and hoses have been replaced. There’s also a reproduction exhaust system with both mufflers and resonators that give it the proper factory tone and proper chrome tips poking through the rear valence. The stance is just right, and it sits on 15-inch Magnum 500 wheels and proper F70-15 Goodyear Polyglas tires
This is a seriously cool car. You can take your Hemi car, but I’ll enjoy the performance of this smooth, torquey big block that’s also bulletproof reliable. Plus I get A/C, power windows, and that awesome bright yellow paint to go with it. Unusual, attractive, fast, and with a great pedigree and matching-numbers, this is a great way to enjoy Chrysler’s best performance car of the period. Call today!
