Washington. The engine was a complete engine that was on a pallet. In February. 2011. the engine was picked up by Bill Green Enterprises located in Kent. Washington. Bill Green. his son Troy and an employee named Kevin rebuild engines and paint cars. At this shop. the engine was completely rebuilt using Hot Head Hemi Parts for the rebuild. Bill Green Enterprises is well known for its expertise in rebuilding Chrysler Hemi engines. The entire car. including the engine. was rewired ensuring good power everywhere in the car. The current owner took possession of the rebuilt car/engine on December 27. 2012 The 276 ci engine block has been bored out . 030 over to 283 ci. Ross forged racing pistons were installed using the original crank shaft and it was blue printed and balanced. On start up there is some normal piston slap similar to an LS-2 Chevrolet engine. In addition to installing a 340 Dodge high capacity oil pump to ensure proper lubrication. lots of other "goodies" were put into and onto this engine that resulted in approximately $20. 00 being spent on this DeSoto engine rebuild. To exhaust the engine. Sanderson headers were installed and they have been connected up to a 2. 5 inch exhaust system. It has a Mallory electronic distributor. The cam is a 40/60 grind. It has a 100 amp Powermaster alternator. The engine is cooled via a Griffin aluminum radiator that is easily sufficient to keep the engine cool while using the Vintage Air Conditioner. The original radiator was sent to the Griffin factory and a specially duplicated radiator was constructed so that the radiator would properly fit into the original 1937 Plymouth radiator frame area. The oil pan was specially designed and constructed so that the DeSoto engine would be able to fit into the original boxed 1937 Plymouth frame. Power is transmitted to the car from the engine through a completely rebuilt 727 Torque Flight automatic transmission that has a mild shift kit installed. The transmission is shifted using a Lokar shifter. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 1967 Mercury Cougar 8 inch rear end that has been completely rebuilt. The 1937 Plymouth front end is long gone. This Plymouth now has a Mustang II front suspension system. Although it does have disc brakes front and rear. it does not have power steering nor power brakes. Why no power steering or power brakes? The builder wanted the engine compartment as clean as possible. With the Mustang II set up. the car drives and handles well and it steers straight as can be while traveling down the road. The car has American Racing Hoppster Style rims with Ventus Sports Extra Load 205/50ZR17 93Y size tires on the front rims and Ventus Sports Extra Load 255/45ZR17 102Y size tires on the rear rims. The tires show very little wear. The car has a JVC AM/FM stereo receiver and cd player with four speakers Two speakers are located under the package shelf and one speaker is located in each of the side kick panels. The amplifier is located next to the battery in the space between the seat and the trunk. Just above the radio/cd player is a "glove box" storage area. Here are some some general points of interest. The car has an electric remote that controls the windows. the doors. a trunk that raises and closes and it also operates the rear revolving license plate. The car has custom made running board exhaust ports that now house running lights. When originally constructed. exhaust coming out of the running board ports was too noisy. Now exhaust comes out of the rear of the car. The car has a four link coil over rear suspension. In addition to having a Lokar shifter. the car has Lokar brake and gas pedals. In addition to having an Optima battery inside the car. the car has remote battery charging posts that are located in the passenger side rear wheel well. aft of (behind) the wheel. The car has the original 1937 Plymouth front seat that was completely rebuilt and upholstered. The upholstery is a good quality grey tweed. ITEMS YOU NEED TO BE AWARE OF Although the car is wired and set up for them. the car does not have windshield wipers. As the picture shows. the button covers can pop off for access. Wiper kits are available but if the new owner wants wipers. they will have to have a kit installed. The front hood alignment is not perfect. Everything looks good. but the alignment is slightly off. Although the paint looks fantastic. there are some "dings" that will show up upon close inspection. However. the car will come with a pint of the special Black Cherry paint that can be used for touch up. Put the paint on and cover it with clear coat and things will look as good as new.
