Description for Plymouth Road Runner 1971
FOR SALE: 1971 Plymouth Roadrunner Numbers Matching 383BB I will try to tell you everything I know about this car…. My mother bought this car in West Palm Beach. FL while visiting me on vacation in 2001. She had the car shipped back to her home in TX and parked it. never drove it. not even once. After many lengthy discussions I finally convinced her to sell it to me in 2010. I put the car in the shop And over the course of 2 years had over $9000 worth of work done to it to make it road worthy. The list is long but basically this happened: Motor balanced and blueprinted. new cam. rebuilt tranny. fuel tank dropped cleaned and lined. tie rods. ball joints. bushings. brakes. replaced headers that didn’t fit properly with original exhaust manifolds. fluids. etc. Please see the receipts that I scanned for a more detailed list. I ran out of time/money before I had the AC working and was going to do 4-wheel disc brake conversion. So. the AC is all there but not working and there are still drum brakes all the way around. Then I had the car shipped to my home in Key West. Immediately after I got the car the original carb which was never rebuilt started to leak. I replaced it with an Edelbrock 650 with a manual choke. I still have the original carb that’s still waits a rebuild and will include that with the sale of the car. A few weeks later the baffles blew out of the mufflers. I had them replaced with new Thrush mufflers. And then a few weeks later the power steering developed and issue. I though it was the pump so I had it replaced. Turns out it was the PS gearbox so that was replaced as well. I still have the original PS pump and will also include that in the sale of the car. The new PS pump belt starts to squeal at about 55mph so if it were me. I would put the old pump back on. Since the speed limit in Key West doesn’t go higher than 35 it wasn’t an immediate issue for me. A few months later while parked on the side of the street a car hit my open door. Consequently. I recently had to replace a door and had the left front fender repaired. My intentions were to repaint the whole car while I had it in the body shop. but loss of a job prevented that from happening. So the entire left front fender. door and blended into the quarter-panel is all new paint. The body shop did a great job with the repair. I still have the door. I have always had a professional work on this car since in my possession and can put you in direct contact with him if needed. The interior is in pretty good shape. The carpet is free of any tears and is in very good shape. The back seat has no tears but is missing seat belts. The headliner will need to be replaced. The driver side of the bench seat has a few tears. see the pics. but both of the headrests are in good shape. All the seatbelts for the front seat are there. including the middle and shoulder belts. There is one crack in the dash. Both sun visors are in good shape as well. All the gauges in the dash work with the exception of the clock and the fuel tank will be empty when the gauge reads just above E. The AM radio is in tact but as far I as I know it doesn’t work. might be the speaker. but I really don’t know for sure. All the glass is in great shape and all 4 windows roll down with no issues. All window cranks. ashtrays. door locks. drivers side remote mirror are there and working. The door panels and rear interior panels are in decent shape and could use a repaint. I am not currently driving the car. but do start it up every weekend and take a quick trip around the block to keep it from drying up. I have driven this car less than 3000 miles since I have had it. I really have no desire to sell this car. But. the house we were renting went on the market. sold quickly and I lost my garage. Indoor storage here is over $400 a month and something we just cant afford right now. The salt air is starting to take it toll on the body and I am not in a financial position to fix it at this point. The front right fender and rear right quarter-panel are rusting through. The driver side is in much better shape. but it is starting behind the rear tire. The rest of the areas of the car that might be showing rust are all areas of surface rust. The floorboards. trunk and frame are all still in good shape. So with that being said the best thing for the sake of the car is to sell it to someone who has the time and the money to fix the rest of what needs to be done. I have set what I believe is a very fair reserve. With a little bit of time on the interior and a new paint job this car would easily sell for double my reserve. Everywhere you drive this car people love it. and there are very few left on the road. especially in this color. numbers matching. with AC. I do realize that Key West is far away from EVERYTHING. so I would be willing to chip in half the price up to $500 to ship the car to you (it cost me $900 to ship it from TX). or if you were going to come pick it up I will be glad to meet you in Homestead with the car on a trailer. If you come all the way to Key West. I will put you up for a night in a hotel. Since I have never really had the opportunity to take a real road trip in this car. I wouldn’t feel entirely comfortable telling someone they could just drive it home. I have never had this car more than 50 miles from home and it hasn’t been driven over 40MPH in over 2 years. You just never know…. This car comes with no warranty and I believe I have been as truthful as possible about everything I know about this vehicle. If there are any further questions send me a message with your phone number through Ebay communications and I will call you ASAP. I will gladly accept cash. or PayPal. no checks. I will require a $500 refundable deposit (minus any re-listing fees that might incur) via PayPal. due within 24 hours of the end of auction. Good luck!
