Description for Pontiac Grand Prix 1970
This is a RARE car...its a 1970 Pontiac Grand Prix Model J...that was built with a 3 speed manual transmission. My quick internet research shows that less than 180 cars were built in this configuration. Has its original numbers matching (vin of this car is stamped into this engine) WX code 400 350 horsepower engine that appears to have been rebuilt and never started...although it does turn by hand and still has its number 13 heads. Engine also has a Edelbrock Performer intake manifold. Has a cast iron 3 speed manual transmission ...not sure if its the original one...and Hurst 3 speed shifter that is missing some parts like the linkage rods and some of the clutch linkage... etc. Most mechanical parts for this car are the same as a GTO so there is a lot of aftermarket support. Was repainted years ago in what looks like the original shade of Bermuda Blue...and the interior was redone in a slightly darker tan color. Wheels are 14x7 Pontiac rallys. Rearend is a AF code 3.23 open rear...which is a Grand Prix only code..and I can only assume that it was for manual trans applications as that gear is a little on the low side for an automatic trans.Optioned with 400 engine, anual trans, ower steering and power disc brakes, ir conditioning, ear window electric defogger and a bunch of lamp options...pretty bare bones car for a Grand Prix.Overall its a nice car...probably should have more block sanding done and a proper paint job. Looks like something was put on the roof and there are a couple of small wave like dents that should be addressed. There are chips here and there..but there is a larger piece of paint loss on the trunk lid. Maybe you can get by with fixing a few paint issues and leave it as is for a driver. Great basis for a restomod since its already a manual trans car...would be great with a 5 or 6 speed manual. Was a stalled project..I get the feeling the car has been sitting since the late 80s or early 90s...some parts are missing..if you dont see it on the car or in the pics that shows the parts on the ground..I dont have it. A couple of year ago I parted out a Grand Prix and many parts sold for cheap prices here. Looks like a lot of chrome and stainless trim was redone and wrapped up...I havent opened each package to inspect the parts...they are likely better than original condition stuff. PHS documentation shows the car was sold to GM International...whatever that was...maybe an overseas military person ordered it? Looks like a California car to me..just a few little bubbles here and there under the paint...probably from poor prep...and thats it...no real rust of consequence on the car. Underneath the car it was undercoated...and its dirty ..but in nice shape. The trunk pan had some padding glued to it...that is a lot of the orange/brown stuff you see...but there is some surface rust that will need wire wheeling and painting.I have a complete lien sale packet that is just as good as a title in CA. If you want a title and you are out of State....I will stand in line at the DMV for you (takes hours) and get a title for $200..Ask questions...your bid means you are willing to pay that amount...period. A winning bid doesnt give you the right to come and inspect the car after the auction ends to decide if you want it...come look before you bid if you are local.TERMS; Full payment is to be in my hands within 4 days of auction end. Manner of payment is strictly my choosing...depends on whom you bank with etc. Have a good guy to reach out to for shipping quotes...email me if you need that.
