Vinyl Interior SELLER REMARKS In 1966. when Pontiac made the GTO its own separate model as opposed to an "option" package. there was good reason. Sales were so successful the previous two years. that Pontiac quickly saw the muscle car movement growing. Even today the GTO's are a staple of the muscle car hobby. showing that what made a car popular back then still rings true today. This gorgeous '66 GTO is no exception. If you are looking for a legit muscle car that is capable of taking home trophies at your local cruise in. look no further. This is the way GTOs are supposed to look. Not over-restored. not modified with flashy wheels. and the result is a car that gets appreciative looks from everyone who sees it. car enthusiast or not. The subtle curve of the rear fenders and the louvered covered taillights distinguishes this GTO from previous years. Originally leaving the Fremont. California plant covered in factory color of Burgundy. now the GTO is covered in a striking red paint. Though not factory correct. the paint is gorgeous and it is contrasted by a black vinyl top that appears like new. The re-chromed front and rear bumpers add the dazzle that catches everyone's eye. and the red grille with stacked headlights demands attention when viewed in one's rear view mirrors. Open the doors and you'll also find a stunning black vinyl interior that has been beautifully restored and accurately presented. proving once again that Pontiac interiors were the best of the best in the mid-60s. It's clear that the fit of the seat covers and carpets undoubtedly is better than new. Sliding behind the wheel. you're relieved to find that this GTO carries only the critical parts: the shifter for the automatic transmission. a Pontiac branded two-spoke steering wheel befitting its image. and precious little else to get in the way of performance. Open the trunk and you'll find beautifully painted floor pans and a full-sized spare with jack assembly. Pontiac's famous 389 cubic inch V8 really doesn't need a lot of description. Wearing a correct 9778789 casting number. this era correct 389 looks fantastic in the spacious engine bay. Correctly detailed with corporate turquoise engine paint and chrome valve covers. because Pontiac brass new that car guys were going to spend a lot of time admiring this engine. Below the large air filter. you'll find an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor feeding the Pontiac mill. while spent gasses travel out a true dual exhaust setup to make a legendary muscle car noise upon revs. Bolted to the engine is a reliable automatic transmission that is a nice break from all the 4-speed muscle cars that we see roll through the showroom. Combine that with power steering and power brakes. you can just sense how great this car is to drive down the road. Completely documented with PHS paperwork. this wonderful GTO nails the factory look and delivers performance that's still impressive today.
