Description for Pontiac Trans Am 1979
‘Farmer John’s’ 1979 Pontiac Trans Am
10thAnniversary Special Edition
This 1979 10th Anniversary Special Edition Pontiac Trans Am was restored by my 78 year old friend ‘Farmer John’. He purchased it about 12 years ago (age 66) and also bought a second identical donor car for parts (have original factory built sheet from donor. Identical to restored car). Over a 5-6 year span he focused on doing a full body off restoration of this car.
I have been around collector cars my whole life (64 yrs) and this car is a ‘10’ inside and out. ‘Farmer John’ has bins full of research about 1979 Pontiac Trans Am Anniversary cars. He also has boxes of extra parts he acquired. The extra parts, paperwork and all receipts come with the purchase, if the buyer wants them (he bought 4 engine turned instrument panels before he found one that was flawless). No money or time was spared on this restoration. It is NOT a numbers matching car, because the original 403 Cu In engine was replaced with a 400, before John bought it. He did find a correct vintage Pontiac 403 Cu In and had it fully rebuilt and balanced. It was bored .030 over and has a mild performance cam, but is otherwise in stock configuration.
A couple of things John did were not factory spec. The engine compartment is painted the silver body color instead of black as it came from the factory. He likes the way it accented the engine! The donut spare tire was replaced with a full sized matching tire and turbo wheel.John applied a protective undercoating on the frame and underside of the body (like factory). A high quality spray in rubberized bed liner (non factory) was applied to all wheel wells, the interior floor area and truck floor area, prior to installation of the carpet. Helps with noise deadening, dust and moisture reduction.
Pontiac experts have indicated a few other things that are not concours...One says the radio should be a red light 8 track (John says this is the right deluxe radio with cassette). A/C receiver dryer should be octagonal not round (could not find round). Seat covers are Legendary aftermarket not NOS. Shifter inlay should say PRNDSL not PRND21 (John says the original 79 car and donor car both had the PRND21 inlay). Inside door handle plastic should be black (John liked silver to match the upholstery better). We are not trying to sell this as a perfect car. These items are minor.
Facts about the 1979 Pontiac Trans Am Special Edition. The two-tone silver and charcoal paint was standard, as was the special 5 color Firebird whose wings extend over the hood and onto the side fenders. The body of the car is outlined in a special black and red stripe package. Special badges (decals) were placed on the 10th Anniversary Edition. The unique Turbo wheels were restored and appear as new. The ‘SHAKER HOOD’ proudly displays the correct 6.6L decals.
The ‘Special Edition’ came equipped with the WS6 handling package, embroidered Firebird emblems are in both leather door panels and the leather rear seat. The 403 Cu. In. engine came standard with the TH350 automatic transmission and console shifter. Each 10th Anniversary Trans Am came with power locks, power windows, air-conditioning, cruise control, power trunk release and virtually every option available at the time, including 4 wheel disc brakes. Also comes std with a 2:73 Positrack differential and original factory installed radio (works).
Has beautiful new silver leather seat upholstery and door panels.John is a perfectionist and it shows in all the details.
The T tops for this model were unique. Instead of a smoked finish the T tops have a special mirrored finish that closely resembles the paint color. The dash gauges are illuminated red on this car.
As compared to the Chevrolet Z-28 and Ford Mustang Cobra of the same year, the Trans Am spanked them for top speed, 0-60, horsepower and ¼ mile standing start time.
If you have followed this car, you know they have skyrocketed in value in recent years. NADA guides shows the Average Retail for this car at $38,780 and this is NOT AN AVERAGE RETAIL CAR. It not a “20-footer”! It shows High Retail at $63,980 and this car is in high retail condition or better.
‘Farmer John’ has set a very reasonable Buy It Now $45,000 (about his cost to restore without labor) on this car including all the parts, manuals and paperwork. Within the past few months a car like this sold at one of the major auctions for well in excess of the $64,000 NADA estimate.Add on's include 403 V8, Factory A/C, Sunroof (T-Top) and 4 -Wheel Disc Brakes. There is almost a $20,000 upside between Buy It Now price and High Retail!!!
Prefer payment by direct deposit. Willing to accept a $1,000 REFUNDABLE PayPal deposit to hold this car (one week), pending your personal satisfactory inspection of the vehicle. If you see anything you don’t like, your deposit will be returned (no hassle). ‘Farmer John’ prefers you see and drive the car in person prior to paying the balance due (old school style). There is nothing to hide on this car. It is exceptional!!! The paint work is spectacular, the interior is all new. If you are looking for a 1979 Pontiac Trans Am 10th Anniversary Special Edition for your collection, I can’t imagine that there is a better one for sale. Odometer shows only 551 miles since full restoration. Kept in a fully insulated garage and NEVER driven in rain or weather. MINT condition! EVERYTHING WORKS CORRECTLY. Car is a RUST FREE Idaho car (low humidity high desert climate) and comes with a Free and Clear Idaho title.
Please call if you have any questions or would like additional photos. (208)345-1400 Kurt. Thanks! See ‘Farmer John’s' pics in std Idaho farmer bib overalls with his favorite ball cap. At 78 John is still actively farming and ranching.
