Description for Pontiac GTO 1970
1970 Pontiac GTO 455 HO 4 Speed Red/Red PHS Documented Survivor
Much of this car is original/ un-restored Survivor. ¼’s, doors, the top surface of the fenders and hood still retain the original paint. It is NOT perfect or restored and has some dents and rust. The worse rust on the car is on the ¼ panels, mostly lower areas and wheel opening area. The wheelhouses look good. The trunk pan is original, never been worked on and has only a few rust spots, the worse is towards the front corners as shown in the photos. Frame is good as best as we can determine. The floors only had a few small rust thru spots that we fiberglass repaired, one on the driver’s side front and two under the rear seat. The front and rear valences are replaced with new reproduction metal. The roof skin was professionally replaced with a rust free original skin from a donor car and paint matched close as possible to the original cardinal red. The front endura bumper has been stripped and repainted and looks very nice. Grilles and headlight bezels and tail lens are original. The brakes have been gone thru also 4 new gas shocks.
The seats are all original except the rear seat back. It was replaced with good used and re-dyed. The package tray and jute padding have been replaced with reproduction new. Rear seat cushion is the original. Seat belts are original. The steering wheel, dash, carpet, headliner, shifter and shift ball are also original. The headliner, carpet, and bucket seat covers are not so good, however they are original.
The engine is a 1970 455 code YH; date code is D210. It is a fresh rebuild with .030 overbore new pistons, rings, bearings, oil pump, water pump, timing set, cam shaft and lifters. The crankshaft is .010/.010 and polished. Clutch, Pressure plate, and throw out bearing is new. The cylinder heads are also fresh rebuild and are correct code 64 but not matching date. The intake, part number 9799068 is original, date code I199. The carburetor is a rebuilt quadrajet 4bbl but not matching. Exhaust is new with aluminized 2 ¼ pipe with correct original reproduction tips. The fan, PS and alternator belts, radiator, thermostat, and heater hoses are new. Rear is 12 bolt posi, believed to be original.
The car starts right up and runs and drives good and strong. The heater, headlights, dash lights, glove box light, cigarette lighter, horn, and turn signals work. The original owners manual and warranty booklet are in the glove box. If you are looking for a car that is rare, can be driven as is and NOT restored then this may be the car! PHS Documentation included. Mileage is believed to be correct.
