Description for Pontiac Trans Am 1978

I have decided to put my restomod 1978 Smokey and the Bandit SE clone up for sale. This “bandit” is impressive to say the least. It underwent a 10 month restomod restoration. It is a factory 4 speed borg warner T10, Hurst package car. It has been lowered on an upgraded Hotchkis suspension, complete with frame connectors, new sway bar links, and solid body bushings. The car rights tight, handles appropriately, and hugs the road. The wheels and tires have been upgraded to 17x9 snowflakes from Year One, and lower profile radials. The interior has been refinished with abeige leather with black suede inserts. The interior colors complement the exterior black and gold color scheme. All the gauges work, with the exception of the water temp and oil pressure gauges, which have been disconnected and replaced with manual gauges that have been mounted in the ash tray area (they were changed to manual gauges due to the unreliability of electric temp and pressure gauges, although they do work if reconnected). The floor boards are solid and have been reinforced. The stereo has been upgraded to a bluetooth Pioneer unit with a powerful dual amp 6 speaker stereo system. The original 400ci engine was removed and replaced with a heavily built street/strip 461ci stroker motor (approximately 1200 miles since completion). Current mileage on the car shows 61463, but unknown if it is correct. During the time of the engine swap, the engine bay was restored and updated with all new wire loom and flat black paint. It has hedman headers and magnaflow exhaust with factory turn down tips. The frame is solid with no rust, as this was a California car prior to my purchase. It also has all new weatherstripping, new carpet, new decals, and a new windshield. All the dash vents were replaced behind the dash. I had the side and rear windows tinted, and has clearshield protection added behind all four tires, and on the rear wheel flares. All the lights were replaced during the restoration as well. The car is an absolute head turner, and in case they don’t see you, they’ll be sure to hear the classic rock from the incredible stereo system as you roll by! I really do hate to sell my T/A, but I have ran out of room and something has to go. Below is a comprehensive list of the modifications done to the car:

Engine:
- Pontiac 400ci short block stroked to 461ci (Eagle Stroker)

- MSD distributor 8528

- Edelbrock 1713 fuel pump

- Edelbrock 2156 performer intake

- Edelbrock 1411 carburetor

- Edlebrock valve covers

- Edelbrock 7157 cam kit (specs match the Ram air 4 cam)

- Manley C.M. pushrods

- PRW aluminum water pump

- PRW billet steel flywheel with ARP bolts

- PW 47294 Alternator

- Comp Cam 1451 Rocker Arms

- Comp Cam 99838 Valve springs

- Comp Cam 3112 timing set

- Forged H-beam connecting rods

- Hedman long tube headers

- milled 6x cast iron Pontiac heads with a true 10:1 compression ratio

- Champion aluminum 3 core radiator with factory clutch fan/shroud, and thermostatic electric front mount fan

- all new hoses and fluids

- Engine built by renowned Pontiac engine builder Rick Johnson, estimated at 475hp and 525 ft.lbs conservatively. I choose not to have the engine put on the dyno, due to the excessive and unnecessary wear caused to a newly built engine.

Suspension:

- Hotchkis front and rear lowering springs

- new solid body bushings

- Pro touring F body Gen II frame connectors (welded on)

- new sway bar link ends

- new front and rear shocks

Interior:

- reupholstered interior withbeige leather and black suede inserts

- new black carpet

- all new weatherstripping rubbers

- new heater dash vents

- upgraded water temp and oil pressure gauges

- new Pioneer Bluetooth head unit

- 3 new 3-way 6x9 Pioneer speakers and 2 6 1/2 “ Pioneer speakers

- trunk mounted 10” Kicker sub in enclosure

- dual amp setup mounted in trunk to amplify all speakers

- carpeted truck area

Exterior:

- new 17x9 Year One snowflakes with new 275/40/17’s on rear and 245/35/17’s on front

- original metal center caps rather than plastic reproduction

- new decals and pin stripping

- new headlight and parking lights with new rear light bulbs

- recently painted Starlight black with a well buffed deep shine

- nice original Hurst T-Tops

- new windshield with integrated radio antenna

- Clear shield protective coating applied behind all tires, and on the rear wheel flares to prevent chips

- tinted side and rear window (rear window was done in single tint, not pieced together)

- custom Hurst decals and 7.5 litre decals on fenders and 461ci decals on shaker (all removable)

I’m sure there are a ton of things I am missing, as nearly everything on this car was either restored or replaced. I have receipts for most of the parts I put on the car. The engine was built to a true 10:1 compression ratio, but can be ran on no less than 93 octane pump fuel, although, I always use an added octane booster to each tank of fuel for better performance. The car runs and rides like a dream, without sacrificing the essence of the classic muscle car sound and feel. The car is available for inspection at my location, or I can take specific pictures or videos as needed. I am asking $39,900, but I am somewhat negotiable. Feel free to make me an offer, it can’t hurt to ask! Test drives are possible for serious buyers only. I have the title in hand, so no waiting on the banks. I am close to St. Louis Lambert Airport and can arrange transportation for non-local buyers. The car can be driven home cross country without hesitation. My name is Brian, and my cell is 618-five8zero-8704. Call, text, or email me at any time with any questions. Thanks for looking.
