Description for Pontiac Tempest 1961
For sale in our St. Louis showroom is a wild 1961 Pontiac Tempest gasser. The odometer reads 50,897, but the actual mileage is unknown. Options for this 1961 Pontiac Tempest include: Seat Belts, Cloth Interior, Aluminum/Alloy Racing Wheels. This 61' Tempest is fresh off a complete rotisserie restoration. Powering this gasser setup is a 350 CID small block Chevrolet 4 bolt main V8 engine. This V8 has been bored .030 over, and is balanced and blueprinted. Plenty of goodies have been utilized to make this 350 SBC stand out from the rest: Manley Platinum Series 10:5 to 1 forged pistons, Lunati full rollers, solid lifter cam shaft with roller rockers, and a new Hillborn electronic fuel injection system controlled by a Carabine control panel to name a few. The Hillborn EFI system alone was well over $6,000. Ceramic coated Hooker Super Competition fender well headers flow from the V8 to the full exhaust, and also feature a manual dump set up. The Muncie M-22 rock crusher 4 speed manual transmission features a Hurst Competition Plus shifter, a mechanical clutch linkage, a racing clutch setup, and blow proof bell housing with a block protector plate. A custom built Ford 9" rear end with a Detroit locker posi-trac and 4.88 gears puts the power to the pavement. Strange axles, leaf springs, coil overs, and ladder bars make up the rear suspension, which is an awesome sight underneath this monster. The front suspension features a Speedway straight axle, with the steering controlled by a custom half rack and pinion setup. Wilwood disc brakes adorn all 4 corners, and feature a line lock system. The body on this 61' Tempest is very straight and super solid. Both the frame and floor pans were modified to managed the increased torque and power load. All supports were professionally welded in. The white pearl base coat/clear coat paint looks fantastic, as does the new chrome, and stainless steel trim. The interior is all original except for the carpeting, and is in great condition. A chrome roll bar has been correctly mounted to the frame members and brings back the old school drag car look.
