Description for Pontiac Ventura 1960
1960 Pontiac Ventura2-door Hardtop
Rare 1960 Pontiac Ventura 2-door hardtop that was built in Southgate, California and sold new in Texas in 1959. The car was owned since new by the same Texas family up until I bought the car last year. Prior to meacquiringthe car, it sat for many years covered with a tarp in a barn in Texas.
The 1960 Ventura is basically Pontiac's version of the 1960 Chevy Impala but with nicer trim. As far as production numbers go, the Pontiac Ventura (27,577) is much more rare than the Chevrolet (204,467). This particular Ventura was factory equipped with Pontiac's 389 cid engine with 4 barrel carburetor and a 4-speed automatic transmission. From what I can tell, both the engine and the transmission are original to the the car. The engine idles and runs smooth, but it does drip a small amount of oil, not unexpected for an original engine with 100,000 miles on it. At some point an ignition shut-off toggle switch was installed under the dash, likely an anti-theft thing that someone felt compelled to do. No big deal, you just have to remember it is there. The car stops fine but you have to use more foot pressure on the brake pedal than what I think would be expected, probably a bad power brake booster. The color combination is white exterior with Tri-color Red interior. Except for the headliner which was replaced around 2004, the interior is original and in fantastic shape.
The previous owner told me that the car was repainted sometime back in the early 80s, he said that some dings and dents were repaired at the time but that the car was in great overall condition. I have found no indications that any body panels have been replaced...as far as I know all of the metal on the car is original. The paint is not perfect, but it shines up real nice. The trim is all there and most of it is in nice shape.
The car comes with some nice documentation, including: the original Bill of Sale from 1959, the original warranty papers, and the original microfiche title.
Interestingly, this car is a past movie car with a cameo appearance in the 2005 Sandra Bullock movie titled "Infamous" ... not a big deal, but a cool little historical bonus.
All in all this1960 Pontiac Ventura 2-door hardtop is a very solid mostly original southern survivor. Arare car that you might see once in a blue moon these days...not many left, especially in this condition. A really cool classic at a VERY reasonable price!
I have a clear title for the car in my name, and the car is in mypossessionin my garage.
