Description for Pontiac Firebird 1979

1979 Pontiac Esprit Redbird: These cars are extremely rare and largely unheard of in collector circles, but there's a lot to love about them. In short, these cars are exciting for three reasons. First, they have tons of visual impact. By color coordinating a two-tone body, interior, outrageous decal package, wheels, grille, and even the taillights, using unique colors and features not available on any other Firebird, Pontiac created a flash of color that has no equal. It combines the Formula appearance package with the Trans Am Special Edition appearance package, and ads even more features of its own. If you see one of these cars on the road, it'll get your attention. I bet everybody that's seen one (or more) can remember the jolting first impression. Second, the bird decals on these cars are obviously female. Feminine. Girls. A lot of guys bought these cars too, and more own them today, but it's pretty hard to argue that the decals aren't feminine. Pontiac appeared to be aiming this car specifically at lady car collectors. We really cannot say why cars are not marketed specifically for women, but this has almost never been done. Third, the survivors are going to be very rare. Adding to our second argument above, ladies don't normally collect cars, and they have mostly disappeared. Some of these cars have been babied and kept in excellent condition. The rest, at some point, usually fall into the hands of a hairy-legged guy who tries to kill the appearance package. Our researched concluded that only 4,248 Red Birds ever rolled off the assembly line.

"Survivor Cars" have been hot on the classic car scene for several years but not every old car is worthy of that title. Not every old car is worth a collector's hard-earned money to bring back to it's original glory. But, a survivor like this rare Red Bird with a known history is definitely worthy of restoring. The story on this Pontiac starts in 1979 when a local woman entered Goodson Pontiac here in Houston and fell in love with a Red Bird on the showroom floor. The Pontiac never left Houston, saw under 54k miles of asphalt (per previous owner), and remained in the same family until our purchasing in Sept 2016. When the original owner passed away in 2009, the title was transferred into her husband's name, who then gave the vehicle to their daughter. Unfortunately the daughter did not have space for the Red Bird and it was parked outside under a cover for the last 6-7 years. Houston doesn't have a very rust-inhibitive climate but years of rain, humidity, and heat quickly took their toll on the old Pontiac. But on a good note, the car was started regularly and has no major mechanical issues. When the car came into our possession, we installed a new battery and added a fresh tank of 93 octane. She starts and drives fine but we would definitely suggest a thorough tune-up before making any road trips. We are not completing any additional work on the Pontiac as the more we spend, the more we have to charge the new owner. From our inspection there are many cosmetic needs that we have clearly shown in the photos below. The floors do have some holes and much of the interior plastic is completely decayed. Features and options on this example include; 301 V8, Auto, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Center Console Storage, Cruise Control, Power Door Locks (inop), Power Windows, Tilt Steering, Tire Tools, 15" Red Honeycomb Wheels, and Dominator 215/70 R15 White Wall Tires. Overall, this Lady Bird is rare, has only 54k miles, has a single family ownership, is very complete, has a great history, is easy to find parts for, and is already running (video on our website). There are hundreds of "old cars" online to restore but why not start with a true survivor that has real potential when done and a great story that will follow it forever!
