Description for Pontiac GTO 1971
Private seller selling my 1971 GTO coupe. I am NOT a dealer. First off, this is a REAL GTO, but it is NOT a Judge. The Pontiac Historical Society (PHS) build sheet is shown in the pictures so you can see how this car was originally equipped. The car is painted the correct original color, quezal gold and has the correct original saddle brown color interior. This is an original factor AC car, along with power steering, disc brakes, AM/FM radio and a few other options that can be seen on the PHS document. This car was professional restored by the previous owner about 8 years ago and as a good restoration should, has aced the test of time. The body is as close to perfect as one can find. Probably better than from the factory. There is no rust anywhere, and zero bondo anywhere. This car was always in the southeast (NC) and not exposed to salt. The exterior is a 9.5 on a scale of 10 in my opinion. The interior is equally as good; interior is near perfect in its original saddle brown factory color. I have a few pictures of the car before and during restoration and some other restoration documentation.
The drive train is NOT original; it is a period correct 400 cubic inch motor that was rebuilt when the car was restored. The transmission is also a period correct Turbo 400 that was also rebuilt at the same time as the restoration was performed. The engine is not a "tire roaster" and I do have a freshly built period correct Pontiac 400 performance engine (complete including carb) that I will include in the sale. (See last pics in posting). It has about 3,000 miles on it and was able to propel a 1974 GTO in the quarter mile at 12.9 seconds, so is pretty stout. I bought this motor with the intention of installing it in my 71 GTO.
As you can see, "Judge" trim and other items have been added, all by the previous owner. The correct "Judge" details were included in the restoration, such as grill color and details, the 455 HO ram air system is correct, and all the Judge decals and trim is correct. The car also has a 12-bolt rear end which only 455 ci cars received, but it is non-posi. It also has boxed rear control arms, which again, was only done on the 455 cars and Judges. Note also the 15" Honeycomb wheels, which are pretty rare., as well as the tach.
The underside of the car is outstanding and rust free as well; all the suspension is brand new. I bought this car simply because it was so "straight". Everything about it looks correct, such as the stance, the colors, the Judge details and remember this is an original GTO and not a Lemans or Tempest. Of course it is not priced as a Judge; it is priced as an original 400 ci. GTO. So if you are looking for a true Judge, keep looking. But if you want an original GTO that has an outstanding body and interior, that runs, handles and stops great (and is being sold with 2 engines, 1 stock and the other high performance) this may be the car for you. Always a conversation piece wherever I drive it.
