Description for Pontiac Trans Am 1979
Rather complete restorationcandidate. This bird was well equipped from the factory. T-top, and power windows that work. Other options that need attention are : power door locks, remote trunk release, cruise control. Not sure about rear window defroster..light comes on, tho.Bought it for a restoration project for an event, but won't have time to finish, so I'm selling this one, and will be buying a "ready to drive" version. This one will need a trunk floor pan replaced, and the drop down on thedriver side. The center portion of the rear seat bottoms will also need panreplacement (all available from NPD, Ames, ClassicInd., eBay,etc.) Ihaven't pulled up the carpet to check the front floors, but assume they'll need patches. Looks like the previous owner(s) did variousresto work on it, as some parts appear almost new.
I just got the car in June, andhaven't really gone through it. The A/C compressor doesn't have a belt on it, so not sure if it works properly, but all of the system seems to bethere. The compressor will turn manually. Bought a new battery, cleaned it up a bit. Starts, runs,"lot" drives. Brakes seem okay. Steering seems fine. Catalytic converter has a hole in it (note janky exhaust tone in video). Clock works, but I don't leave the battery connected, since it mainly sits, so Idon't know if it keeps the correct time.
Only drove it around the house, will probably need some tweaking for dependable daily driving. Again, it will need restoration- paint, interior, and some mechanicals, I'm sure. The body panels seem to be solid, with surface rust and just paint deterioration. Frame looks fine, normal surface rust on rear axle/leaf springs, etc. Interior plastic is faded and brittle, door panels are pretty good, center console is decent... dash has 2 cracks.
