Description for Pontiac Trans Am 1988
We decided to sell our 1988 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am GTA Notchback.
I purchased this car a few years back from a private collector in Missouri and I’m told that it originally came out of Texas, which helps to explain why this car is so clean.
Growing up, the Pontiac Trans Am GTA and the Iroc Z were the cars to have. I was interested in this particular GTA for three reasons. One, the rarity of this car is pretty amazing. I’m told that they only made about 700 notchbacks and roughly 50 were built with the 350 cubic inchmotor like this one has. The second reason I was interested in this particular car, was that it is so original. To my knowledge, this car has been untouched and to me looks as good as some restored ones out there. I’m not an expert, but I think everything but the front floor mats are original. Finally, the third reason I was interested in this GTA was that the mileage was so low on this car. Not even 29K on odometer yet.
The car fires right up and runs and shifts smoothly. It’s actually a pretty fast car and handles the road pretty well. There is a slight vibration that I think is coming from the right front tire. These may be original tires, so they could be weathered and out of balance, but even still, its a pretty smooth ride.
The interior is near mint, with the only issue I see, is that part of the headliner is starting to separate. Common on these I’m told. I checked what seems like 100 switches on the car and all work except that the trunk release works occasionally and the antenna will not go up. Even the AC blowsbut obviously will at least need a good charge to blow cold.
Body is clean and straight as the pictures reflect. If you look close on the rear quarters, you can see some slight egg shelling here and there and I’m told is a result of the cars age, but you have to look real close to see it. Someone not looking for it would never notice it.
Couple other things I want the new owner to be aware of: The driver’s side fog light is out, there are a few stone chips here and there, It looks like in a couple of spots the clear coat faded a bit, the fuel float may be stuck and the hood insulation may need to be replaced. I think that is about it. While this car is not perfect, it is about as nice as you could expect a 30-year-old car to be and with just a little TLC, this car could be the best around. Where will you find another in this nice original condition and with this low of miles?
If you have a question, please ask before deciding to buy it as it is being sold as is. Please look closely at pics.
All offers will be considered. I accept cash at my bank, a wire transfer and a Cashier’s Check is okay, but must clear my bank before the car or title is released.
