Description for Pontiac GTO 1965
Up for sale is my 1965 Pontiac GTO. This is my personal car and I am not a dealer. My '65 is a fantastic and honest car. This is the car that is credited with starting what would become the Muscle Car Era. The car is unmolested and hasn't been modified, cut on, raced or otherwise mistreated. I am going to post answers to the the questions that I would be asking if I were inquiring about the car. If you have other questions, I am more than happy to answer them and include those questions and answers here.1. Is it a real GTO? Yes, it is a real GTO and is PHS documented by the Pontiac Historical Society.2. What is original? Basically everything except the Motor and radiator. Includes the original 2 speed transmission (which was rebuilt 3 years ago), the interior, rearend, drivetrain, dash, radio, console, trunk pans, floorboards, etc.3. What motor does it have? It has a Pontiac GTO 455 from 1970 or 1971. "YA" code. Motor was rebuilt 6 years ago or about 10,000 miles back. 4. Is there any history? No, other than the PHS documentation. The records were lost 8 years back in an office fire. I?m told that the motor was replaced in the early 1970's at a Pontiac dealership.5. How is the paint? The paint shows nicely but it is not a $15,000 paint job. Color is original. Painted 7 years ago. Minor ding in the paint on leading edge of passenger door, metal isn't damaged but paint is missing (I just haven't had the chance to buy the touch up paint.) Car is very straight.6. Is there any rust? It is a rust free southern car. You are welcome to bring a small hammer with you and tap any of the frame and no rust will fall. You are also welcome to run a magnet across the whole car and you won't find any filler.7. Chrome? Shows very nicely from a few feet away, but isn't perfect, has some spider webbing and loss of luster.8. Original radio? Yes, and it works but isn't in the car. It is included with purchase however.9. Glass? No cracks in the glass10. Interior? an 8.5 out of 10. No tears in seats, door panels, carpet, or dash. Black metal dash is original and shows some scratches and wear. Seats are 9 out of 10.11. Rubber? The rubber and trim molding is older but still holding together. One small piece has a tear in the passenger side.12. Windows? All roll up and down and function properly. 13. Doors? Solid and firm with no sag.14. Wheels? Vision wheels are about 5 years old and show like new. I do not have the originals.15. Tires? about 75% tread left.16. Title? Clean and clear NC title17. Electrical and Gauges? All in good working order, except for the clock which is only right twice each day. These aren't a tremendously hard fix, but it is usually easier to simply send them out to be repaired. I had my 1965 Corvette done for about $ 125.00 and I think it is nearly identical. Lights, turn signals, interior lights all work as they should.18. Performance? Excellent. Steers straight, drives straight, no noises, no shimmy, and a smooth ride especially for a 1965 automobile. No smoke, doesn't burn oil and performs as intended. Two speed Automatic shifts perfectly with no issues.19. Other issues? None20. Why am I selling? I have owned lots of classics over the years, but my wife recently asked for her own toy (a Porsche 911, and she never asks for anything) and since we have been married for 25 years, it is honestly time for her to get to enjoy something of her own. So I am reluctantly going to sell my toy and use those funds towards a nice down payment on her dream car.21. Mileage: I have bill of sale from previous owner saying he believed mileage is original. I am not so sure about that as any 50+ year old car would tend to have turned over by now. That said... FYI.22. Other .... You are welcome to come and inspect the car if you are a serious buyer, send an inspector or have it checked by a mechanic here locally. I can give you names or you can take it elsewhere.
This is an honest car. It could be made into a show car if the next buyer desires, but is more than cool and reliable as it is. It isn't a trailer queen and I am not asking a trailer queen price. The car doesn't need anything, doesn't need to have anything fixed and is ready to enjoy immediately. It sounds great and gets lots of attention. It is a car than any car enthusiast would be proud to own. I have taken it on several road/golf trips and have never had the 1st issue. It lives in that garage and doesn't go out in the rain.
Please ask questions and please do not bid unless you intend to purchase the car. I promise not to waste your time and ask that you don't waste mine.
I work a lot and don't have a great mobile signal at my office. So text or email is easiest, but if you need to call you are welcome to do so. 828-524-6842 (office), 828-371-2585 (mobile). My name is Joe. Car is located Franklin, NC. (65 miles from Asheville, 120 from Atlanta, Knoxville, and Greenville/Spartanburg, SC). I can assist with shipping as I have some experience with it, but you would be responsible for the charges.
I do not need assistance in selling the car.
If you wish to finance the car, you can go to www.jjbest.com as they finance classics all of the time and are very reputable. My comprehensive insurance only runs $ 250 per year thru Hagerty Insurance.
I reserve the end this auction early and the right to sell the car locally as I have at least one interested party. Outside of them, I have every intention of selling the car here. If you would like to make an offer directly, you are certainly welcome to do so and I will remove the car from auction once I receive the deposit for the agreed upon amount.
Thanks for looking and good luck.
