Description for Pontiac GTO 1969

Without a doubt the 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge is one of the most sought after cars in the musclecar market. They also command a pretty grand price due to their popularity and rarity. so clean restorable examples are difficult to find. and restored examples are outrageous in price keeping this car out of the hands of many of the average income musclecar enthusiasts. The car featured here is a tribute car. meaning it is not a true Judge or GTO but it is moderately priced and is very clean rust wise. mechanically solid. looks good and is ready to cruise as is. The car garners a lot of stares and thumbs up. and if you’re stopped someone will no doubt come up to talk to you about it and admire it. The car has not been heavily modified beyond the stock enhancements to give it that GTO/Judge look. so it is a great car to further restore. nbsp; or it even makes it a great candidate to further modify into a real Street Machine Terror. Mechanically this car needs is pretty solid and runs well. As you read through the write up you will see a lot of items have either been rebuilt or replaced. This is a great driver and ready to go. Now I should qualify that usually "driver" quality on eBay usually means piece of crap. Let's be clear this is a nice car. but by no means a trailer queen either. hence a great car to drive. and will show pretty well at most local car show. As I mentioned the car collects lots of attention whether it's cruising down the street or parked. Would make a great car to drive and restore. a real handyman's special I am listing this car for a friend of mine who was planning on doing that very same thing. and actually began straitening out some of the concerns out lined below. however he recently found out he and his wife are expecting their first child so it’s time to trim down the projects before the stork comes. It should be noted this is not a fire sale. so he is not desperate. just a common sense sale. knowing his time is going to be real limited soon. Finish -- Grade C-/D+: Orange paint was applied in August 2014 by the previous owner. I’m afraid the prep work was pretty poor and really shows the imperfections in the paint. including poor pre-sanding and even some dirt. There also is some considerable orange peel through out the finish. However. it has amazing luster as seen in the photos. That said. paint looks good at 15-20 foot. It’s a pretty good driver quality and shows well and honestly representative of a lot of cars seen at local cruises or car shows. Body -- Grade C+: Car was original a 2 door Tempest. This car has had a lot of metal work done on it so there is no rust. installation looks good and the lines are pretty straight but some body alignment may need to be addressed with the doors/fenders. It has a full floor pan installed. work looks pretty good. and thorough. It also appears to have had new quarters installed and the work looks good but finished poorly. Someone has installed 1968 Tempest Doors with the vent windows. These look to be pretty clean however. the driver’s door looks to have has some work on it. Car also features original equipment GTO hood. and Endura bumper. Front fenders look clean. but I have not put a magnet on it. It also features the correct GTO front grill. The car was given quite a going through by a previous owner. In parts alone it has quite the value honestly Trim Code info: ST 69-23327 BT01110 BDY TR 232 65 65 PNT 4B488 69 = 1969 23327 = 2 door sport coupe. Bright work -- Grade B : Front windshield. rear window and hood trim is original and free of dents but will require polishing to restore luster. Glass Grade D/B+ : Front windshield has a small crack on the passenger side about 4 inches long. and there are some scratches from the windshield wipers. It’s clear and safe for driving. Side windows are also free of chips. but have some light scratches. Some of weather-stripping and window "fuzzies" have been replaced. Interior B+Interior has had some restoration work and looks clean and fresh. New items include: Dash pad cover. seat covers. front kick panels. headliner and package tray. It has what looks like original GTO door panels that are in good driver quality. Carpet looks replaced as well. installation is fair but looks nice. not a professional installation. Dash features "idiot lights" with Sun-Pro temperature. volt meter and oil pressure gauges. (all work as designed) No Radio. but new dash chrome trim has been installed with wood grain insert. Gear changes are handles by a new B&M Floor Shifter Overall. it is clean inside and with the new interior pieces actually smells new. Wheels Grade A+: Factory Pontiac Rally II 15 X 7 steel rims with a fresh paint job and restoration using factory correct colors. Trims rings will be included with the car. Tires Grade OK: Some Generic brand Radial Tires 223/70R15. Decent tread. holds air. rolls down the road smooth. no idea on the age. Suspension Grade OK: The car tracks down the road nicely with no pull. and was said to have a had front end alignment and was checked out and said to be in solid mechanical condition. Exhaust Grade OK: Three tube headers of unknown origin dump into a custom 2. 5” Dual exhaust. into small turbo style mufflers and 2. 5” tailpipes that exit in the stock location. There is a slight exhaust leak when cold. probably the passenger side header. Rear-end Grade OK : Differential contains an open 3:08 rear-end gear. free of any leaks or noises Ignition Grade A : Stock appearing later model Pontiac HEI style distributor updated with a new cap and rotor. and newer Taylor HP spark plug wires with new AC Delco spark plugs. Air Conditioning/Heater GradeC/B : Non/A/C car. heater core disconnected (probably not good!). however. heater control panel controls all move freely. fan switch and blower motor all work. It has new kick panels installed. Transmission Grade B : GM 350 Turbo-Hydromatic Automatic Transmission is free of leaks and fluid is clear and clean and was said to be rebuilt by the previous owner. I have not run the numbers on the transmission so I am unsure of it’s origins other then it is a BOP style transmission and installation and fit is good. It has a firm shift pattern and the factory detent has been correctly installed to the carburetor to work as designed. Grips well in normal and heavy acceleration. Shifts well with aftermarket B & M Shifter. Brakes Grade OK: Manual Drum Brakes on all four corners. Brakes perform as designed with no pull. I have not mechanically inspected them. but was told they were recently serviced. I noticed it has new rubber brake lines up front which would support this. I have driven the car and the brakes operate without issue. Engine Grade C: Engine is a 1966 389 CID Pontiac Block YC code. with 092 Heads (1. 92/1. 66 valves. 10. 5:1 Compression) most likely from a full size Pontiac. It features an Edelbrock Performer intake with a freshly rebuilt Factory Quadrajet pt# 17057262 (1977 Ventura with Auto Trans) which has an electric choke and the jetting has been recalibrated to match the mild engine and exhaust modifications and a new Carter high volume fuel pump. Installation is clean and professional with a retro or 60's period super stock appearance. Engine is equipped with brand new 60's style finned aluminum valve covers and Edelbrock Chrome open element air cleaner. A newer valley pan from a 1969 or later motor has been installed to give the engine a more period correct look. Little is know about the engine other then the previous owner said he had the heads rebuilt. Engine is clean inside (valve covers removed for inspection) and is free of any noises or knocks. nbsp;but there is some smoke upon start-up cold and under very hard acceleration it will pop the dipstick up out of the tube. Not sure if this is a worn rings (blow by) or they are just a little sticky from not having been run much. I had a car once I dropped a used motor in that had been sitting for a few years. that did this at first but then after driving it and changing the oil a couple times it cleared up and ran great after the gunk from sitting cleaned off the cylinders/rings. I’m told this motor sat for a while before being installed in the car. Cam specs are unknown but the engine the pulls 25 inches of vacuum and pulls smooth right off idle without hesitation through acceleration. Engine pulls hard under acceleration. no black smoke. and carburetor responds well. Brackets are all factory and installation looks professional. considering especially when you consider this car was previously had an inline 6 cylinder in it. Car also features a 5 bladed fan. oil pressure holds a steady 25 lbs of pressure when warm. and engine stays consistent at 150-180 degrees when it was driven a bit last Fall. Summary: This car is “15-20 footer” that looks great driving down the road. it is presentable enough for most local car shows or cruises. It is a very nice car to drive with smooth acceleration. and clean comfortable cabin. The suspension and brakes work as designed and the driving experience of the car is comfortable for local cruising. Operation seems very reliable and without issue and the engine pulls hard off idle up to 5000 rpm. The car as is should make a great reliable. daily driver that would be a blast to drive everyday to work. The paint is presentable. but it should be noted a full repaint would really finish this car off nice. however the car still draws quite a crowd “as is” and easily could be driven without shame. It's a perfect car for someone who has painting skills. but if you had to wait a year to save up for paint there is no shame in driving as is. it looks great! If you are a paint guy you could easily drive and enjoy this car now and then come next winter repaint it yourself and be ready for the next season. The initial restoration was very amateur at best. but all the right stuff was bought and I know my buddy was a having a blast going through the car and just straightening out some of the poor installation issues on various items. Mechanically it solid and all the the maintenance items (battery. alternator. brakes. fluids. radiator. etc) have been checked out. are new or replaced. and or in good working condition! You should be able to drive this car without issue. So if doing a full restoration or building a bad news street terror is outside your skills level but your looking a for a good musclecar to play with that is affordable this the car for you. When you consider the full restoration numbers matching cars run $100K plus and most of the cars below $13K are in need of a lot of work you are dollars ahead in this car as all the parts are there. installed and it is free of any rust. It would be a great base to even make into a heavy duty Pro Touring car as well. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. however may I suggest two great local shippers that will help you get your car from Traverse City to anywhere in the US including to international shipping ports for international buyers. I have used both and advise you call both for a quote and problem free fast shipping rather then using the eBay service. - Advanced Motors LLC @ 231-346-3400 ask for Dimitry - Double Time Transportation @231-929-8981 Questions. call me at 231-350-3491 (Reggie) or Call Jeremy the owner at 616-262-7522
