Description for Pontiac GTO 1968
19,960 GTO convertibles were produces in 1968. Only 4% of the entire production rolled out as High Output (HO) convertibles with a manual transmission. This one of the 766 HO convertibles 4-speeds produced 50 years ago.
My history with this car goes back 10 years. The sheet metal and frame are very nice as can be seen from the undercarriage pictures. The interior also shows well, with little to no wear and newer top, hydraulic lines and piston were recently installed. Nicely equipped with the following: Hide away headlights, hood tachometer, power windows, headrests and recliner passenger seat, wood wheel, remote mirror, power steering, disc brakes and 3.55 safe-T-track rear. A modern touch with a Bluetooth, satellite and hands free phone stereo system is in the glove box and sounds great.
The original (WS) motor is no longer with the car. In it’s place is a very impressive and powerful 1972 400 engine, with a very rare and desirable 1968 RAM AIR II heads and exhaust manifolds. The car runs and drives amazingly with a tight steering and suspension, shifting is smooth and the engine has all the power that is needed. Starts right up and doesn’t overheat going down the road.
The paint, even though looks good and gets lots of praises, is older and wasn’t done top notch. It shows blemishes, chips and cracks on the front bumper. One might consider fresh paint at some time to take this car to the next level, or not. The car is an excellent driver as, gets all the attention it deserves and sounds great.
A rare car indeed with plenty of potential needs very little and best of all…it’s turnkey and can be enjoyed right now.
I will try to upload some U-tube videos of car.
