Description for Pontiac GTO 1968
Here's one classic muscle car that's sure to make an immediate impression. With its unusually high impact exterior color, this 1968 Pontiac GTO convertible looks like it's been transported directly from the past to provide miles and miles of driving excitement for its next lucky owner. Its magnetic look both inside and out combines with a smooth-running drivetrain that's benefited from some well-chosen add-ons to provide plenty of dependable performance. Pearl white paint draped over its exterior turns the dial for curb appeal up to 11 - this Pontiac classic isn't going to get lost in the crowd anytime soon. The paint is looking strong - it's obviously well-applied and the pearl it contains really adds depth. As a '68, it heralded the arrival of the second generation of GTOs - a model that had already endeared itself to American muscle car aficionados, making it all the more important that Pontiac got their restyling efforts right. Its gently sloping rear roofline gives a semi-fastback appearance and a wheelbase a half-foot shorter than its preceding generation as well as a lower profile, were obvious nods to those putting a high premium on inspired handling. You'll notice a few signature styling features on display here - the body-colored "Endura" front bumper, a pair of subtly shaped hood scoops and a hood mounted tach which, while it will need a bit of attention to get back online, is a fine example '60s era automotive cool. The matching white convertible top is in great shape, rising into position smoothly and even featuring a nice, clear plastic rear window. White interiors look great when they're well-protected and treated with respect, but cut a less impressive appearance when that isn't the case. The environment inside the doors of this Pontiac certainly falls into the former category. It really looks sharp. The white covers on the front buckets and rear bench seats still fit snugly and don't show much wear and the matching door panels to each side show the same condition as they cling firmly to their steel frames. Between the buckets sits a center console whose new look suggests it was likely recently replaced as it positions a white-balled Hurst manual shifter in perfect position for putting this classic muscle car through its paces. Up front, the dash area is another strong feature, with easily readable factory gauges in its cluster, fresh woodgrain accents and a clean dash pad free of any cracking across its top. The matching power white convertible stands by to protect you from the elements and it, too, is in good shape - it's even sporting a clear plastic rear window. The period-correct 400 cubic inch V8 holding court under the hood was already plenty strong in its natural state, producing 360 horsepower in factory trim, and it's received some great upgrades to up its power game even further - including an Edelbrock intake manifold, an MSD fuel injection system to provide both adjustability and dependable all-weather performance, as well as an MSD electronic ignition to maximize available spark. This classic pulls with conviction and its 4-speed manual transmission provides a compelling hands-on driving experience. Power steering makes for easy navigation, while power brakes at all four corner - with discs up front - bring fade resistant stops. This unusually eye-catching vintage Pontiac rolls on a set of 15" chrome torque thrust wheels outfitted with BF Goodrich T/A radials while the undercarriage carries the natural patina you'd expect from a half century of life but looks reassuringly sturdy. With an appearance that's sure to turn heads and ample power lurking under its hood, this 1968 Pontiac GTO convertible is one very rare find. Call today!
