Description for Pontiac Catalina 1951
1951 Pontiac Chieftain Numbers-Matching Straight-8 Engine Automatic Transmission Correct Colors: Starmist Blue / Dark Grey Pattern Cloth VIDEO WITH LISTING VIN: F8UH4943 F: Framingham, MA Assembly Plant 8: 8-Cylinder U: 1951 H: Hydramatic Transmission 4943: Serial Number Engine: F8UH4943 (Same as VIN) Trim: Deluxe Dark Grey Body Cloth (71) Paint: Pontiac Starmist Blue (5108) This fantastic ‘51 Chieftain was delivered new to a locomotive engineer in Albany, NY on February 26th, 1951. To the best of our knowledge, the car remained in the Northeast for the majority of its life. We know that... the car originated in upstate New York, later moved to Connecticut (records show it was in CT in the 90s), and eventually ended up in Michigan, where is where we purchased the car. The car was restored in 2006, and will come with receipts for the body/paint work, as well as a number of service items outlined in the “under the hood” portion of this listing. The car will come with framed pages of the original manual (delivery information), the new car pre-delivery sheet, the owner’s service guide, Pontiac shop manual, Hydramatic maintenance guide, and a few trophies from car shows over the years. As it sits, this is a phenomenally nice example inside, out, and underneath. This car is in need of nothing other than a new owner to hop in and rack up the miles. The Exterior: - Please see the video along with the listing, as the car is shown in detail. All blemishes are shown close-up and in direct sunlight. Blemishes include a burn stain on the lower rear chrome bumper, right at the exhaust pipe. There are also a handful of small chips that have been touched-up, those are all shown in the video. Very minor things…overall this car is seriously clean. Exactly what you would expect from a car that has been babied and garage-kept since being treated to a quality restoration twelve years ago. - Paint is A-level. Show worthy. Paint and body work was carried out in 2006 here in Chicago, and the car will come with a receipt for that job. Absolutely no dust under the paint or visible paint run. The car wears a respray of its original Starmist Blue, which is offset beautifully by the dark blue top. - Wheels and tires are both in nice shape. Chrome hubcaps show no damage or oxidation. Receipt for the BF Goodrich Whitewalls shows that they’re from 2002; while slightly outdated, they remain in great condition. - Typical age-related items like weatherstripping, light lenses, emblems, trim, badges, are all excellent. This car has been garage-kept and responsibly-owned since being restored 12 years ago. Chrome is close-to-new throughout. - Glass and light lenses are all clear and crack-free, including the lower fogs. Lights and signals are functional. The Interior: - Interior is phenomenally nice. Seats and door panels were reupholstered in 2006 in the correct grey and body-colored striped cloth and look great against the blue/blue exterior. Receipt will come with the car. No damage throughout the interior whatsoever. No scuffs, tears, or observable wear to the seats, no kicked-open markings on the door panels. - Dash shows very little for wear or signs of age. Gauges are clear, polished pieces within the dash present nicely, the steering wheel is free of cracks. The emblem in the center of the steering wheel does show some spiderwebbing. - Grey carpeting is like-new throughout. - AM radio is functional. Analog clock is not currently functional. Gauges are all functional, including the odometer. Five digit odometer reads 46,150. We are not positive that this is correct original mileage, though we do believe it’s likely. This car retains its original engine, and it’s unlikely that a higher-mile car would have survived through the years without an engine swap. - Windows track nicely, roll up and down smoothly. Under the Hood / Under the Car: - Please take a look at the underbody photos, as the car is documented in detail. The underbody is very nice, with no through rust whatsoever. Very little for surface rust even. There is no evidence of any noteworthy leaks, damage, or prior metal work. - This car retains it’s original straight-8 engine, and there is a photo of the engine’s VIN stamp in the photo gallery. - The car will come with a number of service records, the most significant being a service in late 2004 that included replacement of all four brake drums, master cylinder, and front seal bearings, as well as the water pump, a flush of the cooling system (engine, radiator, heater core), and a rebuild of the starter solenoid. - The car runs and drives really well, and has seen some recent exercise. Truly a very well-sorted car with no urgent needs. It starts right up, idles cool, steady, and quiet, accelerates through the gears nice and smooth, and brakes effectively. The car tracks straight down the road, and steering is nice and direct. For additional information or to discuss purchasing, please reach out to Jake at 773-273-8257.
