Description for Pontiac GTO 1968
Here's a classic muscle car that's sure to turn heads. This 1968 Pontiac GTO represents the model at a great time - at the debut of its second generation, when its manufacturer added some well-chosen aesthetic changes that built upon the GTO's already exalted status on the boulevard. It wears an outstanding exterior color and will arrive with PHS documentation on hand to prove it's the real thing. Pontiac had already enjoyed strong success with the...GTO since it debuted in 1964 and when the time came to make some updates the very year this '68 came out, the company proved itself adept at changing with the times, equipping its prized model with a much more curvaceous shape, as well as a semi-fastback rear roofline. The Midnight Blue shade this GTO wears is a definite head turner. It's about as deep and dark a rendering of the color as you're likely to come across and has a nice shine, but it is an older paint, so it shows signs of being driven. The split front grille became a Pontiac trademark over the years and when you follow this one up to the contour dividing the hood, you'll see a little more evidence of the manufacturer's handiwork: the distinctive double scoop, as well as a hood mounted tachometer ... a very rare option. The collection of brightwork on this classic is looking solid, the signature rear bumper's fresh appearance indicates it was likely recently replaced and the prominent GTO badging near the tail really pops against its background. The interior holds some welcome surprises. It's been totally refurbished and now sports a very sharp, yet era appropriate custom style. The plushly padded bucket seats now wear black leather covers with intricate GTO emblems on their backrests, and they straddle a very nicely configured center console that offers both storage space and a pair of cup holders as well as a His & Hers shifter. This is a very inviting driving environment - the billet steering wheel will attract your gaze right away, the carpet and door panels look new and the dash pad running the width of the cabin is still supple and shows no cracking from UV exposure. Inside the cluster, the trio of oval factory displays are still nice and clear and the woodgrain dash accent appears fresh and well-applied. Open the glovebox and you'll find an Alpine AM/FM/CD player inside. It also features iPod, Bluetooth and satellite radio connectivity and teams with a pair of subwoofers and an amp mounted in the trunk, so you'll have some serious audio quality at your disposal. The engine compartment is tidy and well-detailed, with neatly routed wiring and fresh-looking hoses. The YS code 400 cubic inch V8 at its center wears a 4-barrel Edelbrock carb on top of an intake manifold that appears recently replaced and is running strong and sends a nice deep note out of its Flowmaster exhaust. The engine pairs with a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission that's known for its solid durability and is shifting with precision. With power disc brakes at all four corners, stops come with fade resistant dependability and the power steering on hand has a nice light but responsive touch to it. This very coveted classic cruises on a set of 14" stock Pontiac Motor Division wheels wearing BF Goodrich T/A radials. Pontiac created an enduring classic with the GTO and this 1968 Pontiac GTO captures all that magic in its second generation splendor. Call today!
