Description for Pontiac GTO 1965
1965 GTO 4 speed manual (with overdrive installed) in Monterey Red with white leatherette interior owned since 2002. Originally owned by Jeffrey Wooley, a known Pontiac dealer back in the day from Tampa Florida. Exceptional mechanical condition and maintenance, with numerous upgrades to the driveline and suspension. In the spring of 2003 the engine and transmission were rebuilt by Burtonsville Performance Machine Service in Burtonsville, MD under the supervision of Chuck Roberts, co-author of the GTO Restoration Guide. At the same time the tri-power assembly was rebuilt by Jim Taylor Engine Service in Phillipsburg, NJ. MrTaylor was considered an expert in Pontiac engines and carb systems. He authored a four part series in the magazine "High Performance Pontiac" on the restoration of the Pontiac tri-power setup. He also performed repairs on two of the carbs in 2015. Tolson Automotive removed the engine and trans, and reinstalled, along with correct radiator and shroud (car was purchased with 4 barrel carb radiator, whih was replaced with heavy duty radiator that is standard with tri-power. The undercarriage is excellent, along with all mounting points. Many receipts and documents are included with the GTO, along with the original cylinder heads, exhaust manifolds, rear differential, wire wheel covers and radiator.Additional modifications include:
quick ratio steering box, (12/1 ratio)
Kauffman Racing Equipment aluminum heads, 1.65 roller rockers, Crower cam
Hooker Headers
MSD ignition box, coil and distributor
Gear vendors overdrive
Moser 12 bolt rear with 3.73 gears
Hotchkis TVS kit (springs, sway bars, tie rod sleeves, trailing arms, trailing arm mount braces, shocks,
polyurethane bushings, etc) with the addition of the suspension and steering mods, the car handles and
steers incredibly!
The 1964 4 speed proved weak, and was replaced with a 1968 pontiac 4 speed, which was rebuilt by
Fourcade Transmissions in 2012.
The radio and power antenna were restored/repaired a few years ago. New tires in 2015.
