Description for Pontiac GTO 1966
This 1966 Pontiac GTO was already blessed with an ultra-sharp exterior upon leaving the assembly line and, after having logged a remarkably low 73,000 miles ever since, it remains in unusually clean condition. This is a sterling example of one of GM's best loved vintage muscle cars in outstanding form while carrying plenty of power, courtesy of what's very likely the original powerplant - and a potent one at that - standing eagerly by beneath the hood. It still wears... its original colors both inside and out and this member of muscle car aristocracy carries PHS documentation to attest to its authenticity. Pontiac promoted the GTO from an option package on the Tempest to an entirely separate model the year this '66 debuted and marked the occasion by giving it a lot more curves than its more slab-sided predecessors, as well as a noticeably wider track. The Candelite Cream paint this specimen wears is ornamented by sharp black stripes and has a nice smooth finish - it also mirrors the original color scheme for a thoroughly authentic appearance. Up front, the stacked double headlights sit in fresh looking casings, bracketing a grille whose split configuration became a defining styling cue for its manufacturer over the years. This is a well-detailed, precisely finished muscle car wearing a black vinyl top that's in excellent shape, as well as a collection of badging that's on point. Clear glass surrounds the cabin and every piece of chrome within view is in very good form. The fresh black vinyl interior is in impressively clean condition and offers just the right accompaniment to the outside of the car. The front buckets and rear bench seat feature nicely fitted vinyl covers that have yet to show much wear - there's not even any marked creasing on the front bolsters. A nice by-product of the GTO's relatively generous wheelbase is the space on hand inside the cabin. Invite your friends to join you on the road and they'll find no shortage of legroom in back. Farther forward, the original steering wheel remains perched on the steering column and beyond it, the instrument cluster holds a set of original gauges that all function as intended, while just below, an underdash air conditioning system has been seamlessly installed to keeps things nice and comfortable. An upgraded AM/FM radio takes its place at the center of the dash to fill the cabin with sound. The trunk area in back has been treated with a spray on liner for protection and a full-size spare is inside. The overall running condition of this vintage Pontiac is as strong as can be and it's propelled by a 389 cubic inch V8 that's likely the same engine it pulled off the showroom floor with. It's a powerful engine by any standards, good for a full 360 horses in stock configuration and still fed by its signature Tri-Power fuel delivery system, made up of a trio of two barrel carbs. It sits in a well-maintained engine bay, surrounded by fresh hoses and belts and teams with a 4-speed manual transmission that's navigated by a clutch that was only recently installed for a fitting "hands-on" driving experience. A 2.78 ratio rear end completes the drivetrain and should you opt for a little more off the line ability, the original 3.55 gears are included. Power steering makes this classic easy to maneuver, while power brakes bring low-effort stops to the set of 14" factory wheels wrapped with Firehawk Indy 500 tires. Impressive road-readiness and plenty of power team with outstanding curb appeal to make this 1966 Pontiac GTO a "must see". Call today!
