Description for Pontiac Firebird 1981
A 1981 Pontiac Trans Am Turbo Indy 500 Pace Car is a mouthful to say, and if you're a T/A fan, that's all you'll ever want to hear. After all, that makes this a rare and unique sports machine with its original turbo V8 under the hood. This car is preserved in the right places and restored where you especially want it. For example, the correct white paint was refinished only about 5 months ago, so it has... a look of accuracy and plenty of luster in the sunshine. The '81 Pace Car was distinct for its high-contrast package with black details, like the bumpers, roof, and pinstriping. Even the official pace car decals are part of this color theme, and so new ones were applied after the respray. And of course, the hood bird remains a focal point of this T/A. It creates an accurate and fresh looking total package. These were one of the priciest Pontiacs you could buy that year, and it's also why it's one of the rarest with only 2,000 examples produced. More than just exclusive, this was a speedy-looking T/A. With the pointed Endura front end, large side air ducts, full-width rear spoiler, and offset turbo bulge in the hood. As you look at the details, all of this was paid attention to during the exterior restoration. Even the special turbo alloys were refinished to make sure they remain bold standouts. Those who know Pontiacs will be instantly excited the moment they see the interior. These received a special color theme and a terrific upgrade. The black and red is exceptionally distinctive, and most of it is original, aside from new/fresher carpeting. And we know you instantly spotted those Recaro seats. They are a rare piece, and so it's great to have them looking so good. Best of all, you can share this distinction easily with the world thanks to the T-tops. Because this was the top-of-the-line T/A for Pontiac, this one is loaded. It includes power windows, power locks, cruise control, power steering, tilt wheel, and a special factory AM/FM/cassette stereo that glows red to match the interior. This is a driver's classic, so you get to face iconic components like the Trans Am's special three-spoke steering wheel, cool machined aluminum dash, and the full gauge package with tach/clock combo. While '60s Pontiacs were famous for having the tach on the hood, this special more modern T/A gives you the status of the turbo in lights. Lift the hood for a very unique presentation. The 4.9-liter turbocharged V8 motor was only offered for two years, and fans instantly identify this setup with the offset air topper that makes room for the turbocharger. Everything looks quite correct in the engine bay, and this is the original numbers-matching block. There have even been the right investments in the fundamentals under the hood. These unique T/As were a cool addition to the lineup when the big torque of the V8 would get you off the line and the turbo offered an extra hit of power in the mid-range. Plus, this comes with great handling thanks to the desirable WS6 package. It includes a larger sway bars, tighter steering box ratio, and four-wheel disc brakes. This option made the Trans Am the favorite of most automotive magazines back in the day. Add in power steering and TH350 three-speed automatic transmission, and you've got a terrific total cruising package. Because this is such a distinct classic, you'll also be glad it comes with the right paperwork, like the factory buildsheet, owner's manual, and Pontiac Historic Services (PHS) documentation. Something this rare is rarely this affordable. Call now!
