Description for Pontiac Trans Am 1979
Completely rebuilt 1979 Trans Am. Body, Engine, Transmission and Interior have be upgraded and rebuilt. Car had about 65,000 miles on it when I started the rebuild process. This is anabsolutely loaded car from the factory. It included, power windows, cruise control, t-tops, cloth interior, interior lighting,WS6 Suspension, tilt wheel, and more. I have included the original build sheet for your review. NOTE- Cruise Control was removed from the car.A very nice compilation of driver/show car. No expense was spared during its rebuild about 3 years ago. Car has been garaged and under a cover since then.
Exterior -- Lets start with the basics. You know what you are looking at, the high water mark in Trans Am History, the 1979 with T-Tops. I started with the basic Mayan Red car and applied the most obnoxious Screaming Chicken I could find. The 10 Year Anniversary paint scheme done in Red and Black rather than silver and grey. This is the only year where the bird is so loud and a large that it actually bleeds off the hood and onto the fenders!! Paint is just about perfect with little or no scratches. The car has a clear coat over all the decals and has an incredible shine!! By applying this paint scheme I was able to black out the side mirrors and roof creating the perfect match for the tinted t-tops. This blend of colors and the way it flows is one of a kind! You will NOT see another Trans Am like this. You can drive it a few miles and get many many thumbs up. All T-Top weather striping and gaskets have been replaced. All factory striping and new Pontiac emblems were applied. You will also notice all marker lamps, headlights and bezels were replaced. The tail feathers of this bird will also catch your attention. They are direct replacement DIGITAILS LED Tail lights and directionals that look amazing! Factory 15" Rims were replaced with Year One Snow Flake 17" Rims. The car is currently riding on Continental 245/45-17 tires. The car maintains and aggressivestance while holding a factory look.
Interior -- Inside interior lighting was upgraded to LED. The radio and speakers have been upgraded to a JVC with Bluetooth. New speakers installed under the front dash and rear speaker tray. No cut outs and no butcher job. All components were installed to the factory sizes. Rear speaker tray has been recovered. New carpets and floor mats. Seats and upholsteryis original and in good condition considering they are over 40 years old. Dash was polished and gauges were upgraded to VHZ while are much more accurate and illuminate red at night. Also has a trip computer function and functions to display other digital read outs such as temperature, trip, and voltage displays. The transmission shifter plate now includes an OverDrive selection to match the 4 speed automatic that replaced the 3 speed automatic. Care was give to try to maintain a factory look both inside and outside this vehicle.
Mechanical -- Blessed with 185hp out of the factory we had to do something to bring the car more current. Many people are against the Olds 403 and in favor of the Pontiac 400. However, I wanted to keep this car as original as possible and not going around and changing engines. This is the original block. I pulled the motor out and had it balanced and rebuilt by an Oldsmobile guru. He takes alot of pride in giving these engines some life. I will probably miss alot of items, but here is what he did.Installed Edlebrock Performer RPM Aluminum Heads & RPM Intake, Roller Rocker Arms, Hardened PushRods, Double Roller Timing Chain Performer RPM Cam, Lifters, High volume oil pump, Edlebrock 750cfm Carb & Elec Choke, MSD High energy ignition, electronic fuel pump, Serpentinedrive assembly, new a/c and pump, Headers, Flow Masters, MegaExhaust 2.5", TH700R4 Transmission, 3.73 rear gearing, SubFrame Connectors, KYB Gas Shocks, Springs, Hotchkiss Swaybar & bushings, new idler arm, 4 Wheel Disc Brakes.
If you are looking for a car that stands out. One that looks as close to factory as possible without turning it into a racing car, this car is for you. Unfortunatelythese cars were so under poweredfrom the factory to get the output around 400hp I had to make all these modifications. This is a good combination of reliability and drive-ability. No game players. I have had this car almost 10 years and not parting with it for peanuts. Pontiac is long gone and these cars are only going up in value. College forces sale.
Let me know if I have missed anything or you have any questions.
