Description for Pontiac Trans Am 1989
I bought it in California about 7 years ago. Added Edelbrock CARB-approved headers, new cat converter, new exhaust and muffler, stiffer rear springs, new struts. New interior to match OEM. Tilting, recovered leather OEM type steering wheel and rebuilt Steering Wheel Radio controls and a rebuilt OEM radio/cassette. I wanted the car to look original, but to run better. I ported the intake runners and heads, ported the manifold and added a larger throttle body and higher flow aftermarket injectors, new fuel pump, a mild cam and new lifters. BFG tires and a professionally rebuilt TH700-R4 transmission. The car gets between 15 and 20 on average. It barely passed smog recently. A new cat might help if smog regulations are a problem. However, the car has a 0-60 time of less than 5 secs. It doesn't sound loud or lope, it's a sleeper. This car looks good from about 10 feet. It's a classic that still looks cool. The paint is good, but there are rock chips, and cracked paint on the front and rear bumpers where it was backed into. The left rear quarter was hit before I bought it, and it looks to have been banged out before painting, but not bondo'd. The door rubber needs replacing but I have new rubber for it that comes with the car. The air conditioning compressor is loud, but it works fine. I can't tell if it needs replacing or not, the air blows cold even in Arizona. All the glass is good, no cracks, including the T-Tops. The original T-Top bags are there. The power windows are slow, but work up and down. The power trunk release works. The power antenna works. The cruise control works great. There is a small crack on top of the dash between the defrost vent and driver side speaker, see the pix. Check out the video https://youtu.be/iNQWJY0EXsk
I had the transmission rebuilt at 95K miles in 2014. It was rebuilt with stronger components to match the higher power engine components. This is the original engine. There is a small rear main seal leak, but I have never needed to add oil between oil changes. The rear is a 3:27 posi. This is a WS6 car. The brakes are disc, front and rear and have new pads. The brake system was serviced when I redid the engine/trans and works great. The tires are BFG g-Force radials and don't leak air. They still have at least half their tread. The wheels are OEM snowflakes. The wheels could use some clear coating, but still look fine. Questions? Ask away. (505) 414-5221
