Description for Pontiac Trans Am 1979
Vehicle DetailsFor auction is a 1979 Trans Am. Original paint and dings (no hidden bondo or rust, what you see is what you get). I have owned this car for 32 years and I believe I am the second owner of it. As you can imagine, there is no part of this car that I don’t know about or haven’t repaired or replaced in our time together. This is not some pulled out of a field car, it has been kept in a garage or at least a carport for the last 20 years until I recently moved 3 weeks ago (Now under a tarp, which is why I am selling). I don’t have the time or room to keep her. The reserve is set a $6K,, so if you are not a serious byer, please do NOT bid. The car is located in Jasper Arkansas. Byer is responsible for picking up the car.
Originally a K code car, now has a 1972 YH Four Bolt Main and Main Caps 455. The engine has all ARP bolts for the 4 bolt main caps, rod ends and rocker studs. Balanced rotating assembly, high volume oil pump, Eagle forged steel crank and heavy duty Eagle forged 4340 H-Beam connecting rods and Ross forged dished .030 pistons to lower the compression for the big valve Pontiac RA III #62 heads. This is a full roller cam, lifter and rocker motor, unfortunately I have forgot the specs of the cam I am running, but the rockers are 1.65 Harland Sharp. Edelbrock dual plane aluminum intake with a Holly 780 vacuum secondary currently on it, but I will also include the Holly 750 double pumper which is a much better carb for this engine. Doug’s ceramic coated headers dueled out with stainless exhaust into Magnaflow mufflers which sounds great. The engine, TH 350 transmission, balanced drive shaft and rear end bearings all were done about 5000 miles ago (10 Years). 4 new BF Goodrich tires and rear brake calipers and pads were done about 400 miles ago (2 Years). Oil and filter change 200 miles go (2 Weeks) so my wife could drive it up to our new house.
The A/C hoses have been converted for R134 and compressor and condenser were new and all good, but the evaporator needs to be replaced. Front end linkage, ball joints, steering box, springs and front shocks were all replaced about 4000 miles ago (9 years).
The interior, wiring harness, gauges and rear disk 2.41 rear end is from a 1980 TA. Tach and oil pressure gauges not working at this time. The gas tank and sending unit were replaced about 10 years ago. The doors and hinges are original and surprisingly don’t sag and open and close beautifully, but the glass felt and door seals and strips need to be replaced. Power windows work and are original motors.
The car has rust in some spots, but not in the typical area these cars usually do. There is rust around the windshield where the glass sets in, and some on the dash and in the trunk see photos. The subframe will need to be replaced during the restoration process. The reason is, the left front lower control arm perch was welded before I got the car and it is an awful weld to say the least. I have never trusted the weld and I should have replaced the subframe long ago, I will try to get a good photo of this issue.
This is not a perfect car and will require a restoration and some mechanical attention to be perfect, but the car has good bones and a lot has been done over the years that will save you money in the long run. I know many people looking here are not local, so I have included the best description and photos possible to help you understand the car before buying.
