Description for Pontiac Trans Am 1978
If you are looking at this ad, you know what this car is and how rare they have become in original condition. This is an original black on black 1978 Pontiac Trans AM with a Pointiac 400 V8 6.6 liter engine (W72) and the factory Hurst 4 speed transmission. This car has the WS6 suspension package, the Fisher T-Tops and air conditioning from the factory (see the picture of the window sticker). VIN#: 2W87Z8N187558. This car has 73,000 original documented miles on it and is PHS documented (see picture of the original window sticker). This is a numbers matching car that was never abused, rusted or molested. I own the car outright and have the title in hand.
Lets face it, a 1978 Pontiac Trans Am drives, handles and stops poorly compared to modern muscle cars (even though my memory when I was a teenager with one tells me they were incredible!). I have corrected for all of that! Now for all the fun stuff about the car. I have over $110K in this car between buying it and restoring/modifying it. This car runs and drives like a modern day muscle car, but looks exactly like it did when it rolled off the showroom floor in 1978. It is an attention getter anywhere I take it (and probably one of the most recognized muscle cars on the planet)!
- Holley Sniper EFI system with an MSD ignition
- Detroit Speed coil over front suspension with a modern rack and pinion steering
- Willwood disc brakes on all 4 wheels
- Pypes full exhaust system with Dougs headers
- Custom 19 snowflake rims with BF Goodrich G-Force tires
- New cooling system
- 5 speed Tremec transmission (I have the original numbers matching 4 speed transmission that with convey with the car)
- Custom sound system with Alpine amp and JL Audio subwoofers (all hidden) running through the factory AM/FM CB radio with Bluetooth and hands free calling
- Custom leather seats (to look like the factory original seats)
- All new interior
- The engine was rebuilt by the previous owner and has a mild cam in it (dynoed at 271 hp. And 356 ft. Lbs. of torque on the rear wheels). I have the receipt for the engine rebuild.
- Factory 3.42 posi-traction rear axle
- New Phoenix Graphics decals (all correct and OEM style)
- LED headlights, tail lights and interior lighting (all looking exactly like the OEM)
I have all the receipts to prove the amount of money that went into this build. It was done at Legacy Innovation in PA (outside of York PA). I was told from the previous owner that the car was repainted one time about 20 years ago. There is no rust on the car that I can see anywhere. This car runs and drives like a modern day muscle car and gets 17 MPG on the highway. Everything works on it (including the AC and the clock). There are no leaks of any kind. The T-tops do not leak which is rare for these cars. There are no leaks and rattles. You will not find one as nice and original as this car that has been modified to look original, but run better than new. You can drive this car anywhere with confidence. It is fast, safe, fuel efficient (for a 1978 Trans Am) and reliable. You could never buy and build an original car like this for this kind of money. I am making room in my garage for another build I am doing with Dave Kindig and the Kindig Academy at Lincoln Tech.
