Brief Background:
In the early 90's, after the launch of the 964 model, Porsche created a very popular racing series called the Porsche Carrera Cup. The series would often support F1 races as they toured through Europe, and some F1 stars, including Mika Hakkinen, even drove in the series. In 1992 Porsche planned to develop a similar series to run in the USA which prompted the production of 45 cars, similar to the European Carrera RS or NGT, to be used in the series.
Porsche worked with Andial (now Porsche Motorsports NA) and PCNA to get the cars into the country and converted into racecars for the series.
45 Carrera Cup USA cars were shipped to Charleston, SC.
29 cars were shipped to Andial from Charleston, SC. 25 of these 29 were fully converted to racecars. The remaining 4 were left untouched and planned to be used as parts cars.
Then the series was cancelled....
After the series was cancelled the 25 converted racecars were mostly reconverted back to street cars by Andial/PCNA and returned with the 4 parts cars back to Charleston where the other 16 cars remained.
All of the cars were then sold quietly at dealerships as Carrera Cup street cars with no advertising. This is one of last racecars built for the street that Porsche offered to the public.
The History of #24:
#24 started its life as one of the 29 cars sent to Andial and converted to a racecar and then back to a street car. It was subsequently sold to the original owner by Danbury Porsche. It was used as a street car for roughly 15,000 miles and then converted back to full race specifications by a well known independent shop in CT. The car has been with my family since shortly after the conversion ~15 years and has been rigorously maintained by two independent Porsche mechanics in NJ and FL. Service history can be provided to serious buyers. The car is a snowbird and doesn't like to be in the cold. Spent roughly 6 months of the year in Florida. This car has never been raced. It has spent the last ~15 years as a High Performance Drivers Education vehicle used at racetracks along the east coast between Mont Tremblant and Sebring. Mostly driven by a very experienced female driver and former chief instructor of our local PCA region. Never been in any accident or collision. Clean Carfax! Two owner car. (Owners 2&3 are my father. Carfax shows 3 owners)
Interior:
Interior of the car is in immaculate condition. Zero cracks on dash. There was minor peeling on the two left gages of the cluster which have been sent out for refinishing prior to the sale. The car is equipped with an original Recaro driver's seat. Door panels and center console are in impeccable condition as well.
Exterior:
This car was covered in clear bra for nearly its entire life. The paint shows it was cared for and well maintained. I believe this car to be all original paint with exception to the front bumper and rear bumper. There is some minor chipping on the headlight covers where no clear bra was installed. There is also a few minor imperfections on the rear quarters caused by rocks hitting the underside of the panel where shields were removed. The largest is about the size of a dime. I have included some close ups in the photos linked below. We were not inclined to fix these minor imperfections as we felt it was up to the next owner on whether to preserve the originality of the car. Original wheels (7x17 and 8x17) that came with the car are currently fitted the 2 rears have been refinished recently and the two fronts have barely been used but display some slight imperfections caused by storage. New tires. All lighting is new or like new condition.
Mechanicals:
This car is ready to go wherever you want to take it. This car is at home on the racetrack or easily modified back to street duty. The engine was rebuilt within the past few years. Everything was in perfect working order when put into storage last year. Rotors could be up for replacement soon.
PPI's are welcome and we are willing to transport the car within 20 miles for inspection at the buyer's expense. If you would like a list of local shops, I can provide that as well.
