Description for Porsche 914 1974

1974 PORSCHE 914 2.0 Targa 5 speed with BIG BORE kit. Stock fuel injection. Widebody kit. Fiberglass blended properly. Lots and lots of new stuff. Moving to a new house and need to get rid of car. Awesome project. Stainless fuel line from tank to rear. New fuel pump, rebuilt injectors. Brand new interior including dash.momo steering wheel, New trunk and hood carpet kit. Front lights replaced and do open and close properly. Doors open and close solid as they should. New gas shock kits for front and rear hoods installed New carpet kit. New window rubber, trunk rubber and hood rubber seals. Car is wrapped in Avery vinyl mainly to buy time until paint. Original color is red. Body is straight. No rust inside. Very little rust anywhere. Standard rust under the battery tray. I have the new tray and will include with many other parts. See pics. Brand new aftermarket polished Fuchs staggered wide wheels and new tires. Brakes are new and caliper painted to match. Vinyl isn't perfect by any means but it looks very decent and I get a lot of compliments. Ill go through it all before New owner takes it and make sure it's all looking good. Car has title in hand and is registered and insured. New battery. New starter. Rebuilt clutch and brake pedal assembly. Clutch functions as it should and shifts great.Car was taken to a local shop when it was rough running. Engine was pulled. Rebuilt will all new seals. Injectors were rebuilt. Car starts and runs perfectly. Aftermarket exhaust sounds good. After car warms up it runs like junk. Mechanic says this is due to needing a new cylinder hear temperature sensor which I did get and haven't had them install. Engine was fully gone through by mechanic and found to run and drive perfectly (aside from sensor). See report and feel free to call mechanic to discuss. He will remember the bright green 914! This car will need to be trailered or towed because after a few minutes of driving the car starts sputtering and wanting to die due to the sensor. All inside gauges work except for the speedometer. All center console gauges are original and appear to work. I didn't have a key when I found the car so I had a new key made. It works on ignition and on the doors. The passenger side door locks and opens properly. The drivers side door needs adjustment but key does fit for it as well. I have well over $8k into this car and once small issues are sorted out this car is a blast to drive. Lots of power and on rails.Car still needs:—lock adjustment on drivers side—paint if desired—install cylinder temperature sensor (comes with car)—install rear view mirror (comes with car)—install visors (comes with car)—heater ducts have been disabled which was common practice when going big bore—glove box neeeds to be installed (comes with car)—one of the rear trunk gas shocks has failed and could be repaired if desired. One holds it up fine—speedometer cable—headlight pull probably needs to be replaced or rebuilt. Jiggling it effects the headlights.—rear tail lights are disconnected but work fine once connected.—very very very slight oil leak. Smaller than any I have ever seen on these vehicles.
This car is awesome, looks great, is a blast to drive and will be a great example of a 2.0 Targa 914 once buttoned up.
No reserve. I can ship it wherever you like just let me know. Car does run and drive fine so we can drive it to a shipping company or they can come pick it up. I'm near Fresno California.

UPDATE: I got a 13mm deep socket with a slit in it so I decided to change out the cylinder temperature sensor. It seemed to make the idle much smoother but after warming up it still sputters and backfired lightly when you throttle it so at this point it can only be a distributor cap issue or possibly a cold start valve. It really just needs a tune up. Someone who knows what they are doing. I'll update if I find out anything else. Thanks again and good luck

I forgot to mention I had them switch the car from points to electronic ignition When it was in the shop. It's a possibility it's a distributor cap issue that's causing the sputtering and backfiring. Whatever it is, It's a simple fix I'm sure of that. Anyone who works in these cars should be able to tune it up in no time. Just being upfront with everyone.
Another solution would be go back to points or to go to carbs like many do to rule out issues with fuel injection. I didn't want to go that route. I don't mind the fuel injection. But lots of guys go to caress Thanks

I have had some questions so I will go ahead and comment:1) to clarify this car is a factory 2.0 and big bore kit was added. I am not sure what size bore.2) The fender flares are fiberglass not steel and they are all blended into front and rear fiberglass bumper covers. If you wanted to go back to stock front and rear fenders you would have to cut the front and rear bumpers away and install stock bumpers.3) the car starts right up. Idles perfectly fine. Drives. As soon as temperature is in the engine (5 minutes or so), it becomes very rough. Idle drops, sputters, backfires. If I had the time and desire I would take it to get sorted out but we are moving and that is not an option. I have been told by a few people it could be a possible ManifoldPressure Sensor. This one appears to never have been rebuilt and is floating around in the engine bay. Something to think about.

I want to be clear this car is wrapped in vinyl. It is not painted! It looks decent but it is far from perfect. Many areas are not great but it is perfectly passable until you paint it or decide what you want to do with it. Car is considered a work in progress because it is not finished. Under the vinyl is a mixture of the stock red paint and primer and clear to help the vinyl attach better. Many of the compartments and gaps have black plastidip over the original red paint.Again, as stated, by no means is this vinyl perfect. I planned on painting the car and this was just something to pass the time until that happened. Please ask for specific pics if you want them. I have no problem taking whatever pics or video you want. Also you are free to come by and see the car at any time.Thanks and good luck.
