Description for Porsche 928 1984
Up for no reserve auction is my stunning 1984 Porsche 928S. There is no substitute! This is a nice 'driver quality' Porsche with very little required to return it to its former greatness. As you are doubtlessly aware, these early Porsche 928's are becoming increasingly collectible and values are predicted to skyrocket. I purchased this classic almost exactly one year ago with plans to fix it up and keep it forever. However, one knee replacement surgery (and one to go) has left me unable to work on the car and barely able to get in and out of her. Pre-surgery, I had done almost all of the 'heavy lifting' necessary including new tires (Michelin Pilot Sport AS3+'s, new paint (Guards Red), mostly new interior, new windshield and moldings, new Blaupunkt radio, etc... This 928S runs and drives great, but has a few 'gremlins' left to sort out. She has a bit of cold-start hesitation, but smooths out and runs fine after the first minute or two. The sunroof works, the climate controls work, but the A/C is not cold. The headlights, tail lights, turn signals, backup lights all work. The wipers work. The power windows do not work. The interior lights work some of the time and some of the time, they don't. The power seats work intermittently. The dash has some cracks and I have a new dash cap for you to install (I just can't do it). The seats have been reupholstered where necessary. I ordered a complete reupholstery kit and the remaining unused pieces will go with the car. The odometer DOES NOT work. The guy I bought the car from said that it was working when I took delivery and I have put less than one thousand miles on it since then. So miles are somewhere in the ninety thousands. Everything leaks (although nothing catastrophic). It's a really great car that just needs to be taken to the finish line. This 928S is a classic and an attention getter everywhere it is driven. Bid early and bid often. This is your opportunity to get the car you always dreamed of. Joel in Risky Business says, 'Sometimes you just have to say, What the Heck!'. On Sep-20-18 at 18:30:52 PDT, seller added the following information:I wanted to address a couple of questions sent to me by bidders:Q) 'Your car looks nice. Do you think I could drive it to southern Indiana?' A) You're right. It's a really nice car. I think I spent too much time talking about what it 'needs' and not enough time talking about how nice it 'is'. The longest I've driven it at a stretch is about two and a half hours. I've taken it for several cruises in the half hour to hour range and it has performed well. It loves to go fast! Temperature stays cool, has good oil pressure and goes down the road straight. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it on a longer trip. Bid early and often!Q) What do you mean by 'Everything leaks'? A) It has leaked fluid(s) since I have owned it. In the year I have had it, it hasn't lost more than about a quarter quart of oil (but it does leak). I think possibly power steering and trans fluid too but not much. No coolant that I have seen (no drips on ground, no smell of coolant). No obvious fuel leaks or smell that would indicate fuel either. From what I understand, 928's tend to leak if you don't drive them much. The gaskets can shrink a little (from not driving) and that can make things worse. It isn't 'hemorrhaging' fluid or anything like that. I just don't want anybody thinking it is 100% leak free.
Also, I have a photo in the listing of the driver's side body side molding that is slightly 'bent' on the front fender piece. Replacement pieces are readily available it if it bothered you. There are a couple of areas of over-spray on the car from less than perfect masking during painting. There is a picture of some over-spray on the rear window molding which is the worst of it. You can easily address those issues. I just wanted to show them to be clear. You will love the car.
