Description for Porsche 944 1986
Up for sale is my 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo. I am the third owner of this car and have owned it for about 4 years. with the intent to fully restore the vehicle. Between relocations due to work and other time constraints. I unfortunately could never get to working on the car. and I don’t see any time for that in the near future. and have therefore sadly decided to sell this Porsche. hoping that someone else can invest more time into it. The vehicle has spent all its life in southern New Mexico. so there is no rust on it whatsoever. I just recently moved it to southeast Indiana. which is where I had to move. The car has just under 93k original miles on the odometer. and runs perfectly. Very healthy sounding engine that runs without any flaws. The only thing I have done. was a synthetic oil/filter change. a new distributor cap/rotor. and just recently a new battery. since the old one died from being parked in the garage too long. Here’s a bit more information on the vehicle’s condition: Mechanically. the vehicle is in great shape. and I would not be afraid to take this Porsche on a long road trip just the way it sits here. The engine runs very smooth. and the transmission shifts through all the gears just fine. Most of the things that would require attention are of cosmetic nature. As can be seen in the pictures. the car could use a new paint job. There is no body damage. just paint damage from the dry New Mexico heat. which is also the reason for the cracked dashboard. The driver’s seat has tear in it. but electronically everything seems to work fine. Power Seats. Windows. Mirrors and Sunroof work. The cruise control lever recently broke off. so it will need to be replaced (Cruise control worked just fine before). There is a turn knob missing from the airspeed control. and the plastic behind the cover is cracked. so it doesn’t fit flush. I also don’t think that the button that actuates the A/C is factory. but the A/C and heater work good. The previous owner installed two cheap gauges (AFR and Boost) below the radio. which I’m not really a fan of. they could be replaced with quality gauges or eliminated for little cost. The tires still seem to be fairly new. the wheels are also in a decent condition. The rear hatch shocks are worn out. so it won’t stay up on its own anymore. and one of the driver’s seat release slides. which enables you to tilt the seat forward so you can access the rear seat is broken off. the seat is still fully operational. I know this sounds like there are a lot of things wrong with this car. but like I said most of these are cosmetic. So this Porsche needs some TLC. but low miles. excellent running drivetrain and straight chassis would make this vehicle perfect for nice restoration. In perfect condition. a 944 Turbo can sell for $20k-$30k. so if you have some time and little money to invest. just can have one for a lot less. Please let me know if you have any questions. and I’ll try to be as specific and honest as possible. Also. there is NO RESERVE on this auction. so the highest bidder takes the car!!! On Feb-20-15 at 12:59:38 PST. seller added the following information: I'm not sure why the Auto Check gives this car such a low score. but I assume this is because of the entry that the odometer supposedly reached mechanical limits. This is quite frustrating. because it is absolutely not true. The low mileage is what gives this Porsche its value! I remember when I transferred the title into my name over 4 years ago. the person at the motor vehicle department marked the odometer as electronically limited. although it was not. I argued with her about that. telling her that it would tremendously affect the value of this car. but she said that they do that with all vehicles that are 25 years old or older. and there would be nothing she could do. The odometer works fine. and has never been replaced or messed with to the best of my knowledge. Also I forgot to mention that the windshield has a crack toward the center bottom of the windshield. as it is kind of hard to see on the pictures. Sorry. Also. I don't believe these vehicles came with ABS. which would have been wrongfully checked. Please ask whatever questions you may have. and I will answer them promptly and honestly!
