Description for Porsche 911 1965
The 901 Porsche prototype would be introduced at the September 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show. nbsp;though it would be towards the end of 1964 before Porsche was ready to put the new model into production at Zuffenhausen. First. the name had to be changed. as Peugeot owned the rights to car model names using three digits and a zero in the middle. and took issue with Porsche over their proposed nomenclature. So 911 it was. Today. early 911s continue to be competitive in vintage racing and rallying. while making for one of these most popular and usable vintage sports cars for the road. The earliest models possess a unique purity and elegance. and as the first of the breed. the 1965 models are by far the most sought-after. The Motorcar Offered 130 bhp. 1. 91 cc SOHC air-cooled horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine. nbsp;five-speed manual transmission. independent front and rear suspension. nbsp;and four-wheel disc brakes. Wheelbase: 87 in. · Matching-numbers example of a highly sought-after model · Rare and attractive Bali Blue over Black color combination · Includes Porsche Certificate of Authenticity According to the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity issued for this car. this 911 was built as a 1965 model year car. Completed at the Zuffenhausen Porsche works on April 15. 1965. It was finished in the same color combination it wears today. 6412 Bali Blue over Black leatherette interior with the 901 5-speed manual transaxle. The new 911 was fitted with American-spec lights and lenses. and shipped off to the States to be received by its first owner. As you will notice this is an early number car for the production year of 1965. VIN 300923. which makes this car even more desirable. This is a unique and rare two-owner car. The second owner purchased the 911 in 1969 from it’s original owner. a young actor in Santa Monica CA. Something else to note. this car has never been taken apart for restoration. the car has been repainted. although not a great finish but ALL panels are original to the car. The car was in a slight accident some years back. the passenger side door was not properly fixed and therefore the door rubs slightly against the front fender and the window frame and door do not line-up as they should. But no other damage or issues have been found. The original chrome and bright work is still in place. Inside one finds a nearly completely and untouched original interior. the front seats are not correct to the 1965 model year. while they are early Porsche seats they are not the original seats for the car. The radio has been replaced. Headliner. wooden dash veneer. steering wheel and gauges. all intact and original. The floors in this car are immaculate. solid and original. and in fact still have the original sound proofing throughout the car! No rust or previous rust repairs have been found. The engine compartment is correct with the matching numbers engine. What is not correct is the updated fuel injection system that was installed on the car. The previous owner at some point removed the original Solex carbs in place of a fuel injection system. Unfortunately the original carbs are no longer with the car. The engine was rebuilt by the previous owner and since the car has only been driven for weekend pleasure drives. Gearbox has also been rebuilt and is also original matching numbers to the car. The car also had two holes drilled in the front trunk area for speaker mounting. something we wish hadn't been done but it was done unfortunately. This 65 has the 65-only bits like washer bottle in passenger front fender. solid shock towers. window cranks. gold 911 correct emblems. The Webasto heater remains in place in the smuggler's box. 4 button dash. The rims are date coded for 1968. we do not know the reason or story behind this. But all 5 rims share same date codes. The previous owner had the car since 1969. he maintained it meticulously and kept many records of the car. He was a member of the US Airforce and is a decorated war hero serving in WWII in the 401st Bombing Group 612 Squadron in England. He will be available to be contacted by the buyer. but only the buyer. He is an older gentleman and we respect his privacy. As stated by the previous owner. the original owner was a young actor who lived Los Angeles. we have records that show a Steven Evans as this person. Steven an actor at the time later appeared in the movies “Heart Like a Wheel” and “More American Graffiti”. The car was originally purchased in Los Angeles. Here is a chance to buy one of the very rare. first of the line examples of the iconic 911. in a wonderful color combination. A matching numbers example. this highly original 911 is quite rare as the car has been well preserved. It is a survivor car with much of it being completely original and untouched. The new six-cylinder 911. conceived as the successor to the much-loved four-cylinder 356 series. was unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show (as was the 901) in the fall of 1963. and it went into series production one year later. It remains. after 50 years. one of the purest automotive designs in history. This early short-wheelbase 911 was special-ordered in Bali Blue (6412) with a Black Leatherette B interior. and it left the factory as such on April 15. 1965. Today. fine matching-numbers examples of early short-wheelbase 911s in unusual colors are in great demand worldwide.
