Description for Porsche 911 1987
Few cars are as visceral as a Porsche 911, and that's a quality that just about triples in a cabriolet. By the time this 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera cabrio was built, most of the tail happy behavior was finely honed out...but not all. You never forget you're in a rear-engined car, and you don't want to. Gorgeous cars like this special-order Cassis Red Metallic 911 here have a way of getting into your soul, and you'll wonder how it is... you ever lived without one. Outside, you're looking at one very stock Porsche. The rare, special-order Cassis Red Metallic paint is very nice with few marks, and the door panels are solid in a way that can only indicate that the car's never been hit. The low mileage and low ownership (only 76,234 actual miles; 3 owners) confirms what your eye can see, as well and the quality of the Porsche factory is tangible everywhere you look. A factory chin spoiler, body-colored bumpers, and the rear decklid louvers were favorite details that made these cars iconic, and it also carries Euro-spec headlight lenses and a black Carrera emblem on the deck lid. The doors open and close with a remarkable sense of precision, especially for a convertible, and there's zero evidence that this car has been raced, abused, or otherwise mistreated. The stance is even factory correct and the top was replaced in 2016; this is what this car looked like new! Brand new eight-way adjustable Linen leather seats invite you in with a look that's comfortable yet very sporty. A few comfort marks are to be expected inside the white cabin but it doesn't look like anything has been baked by the sun, which is unusual in a high-profile convertible like this. Porsche's familiar gauges are the epitome of simplicity and quick-reference, with a big tach front and center and auxiliary gauges flanking it on either side. The shifter works rather well considering the transmission is way behind you and the fat leather-wrapped steering wheel telegraphs whatever the front tires are doing directly to your palms. A Kenwood AM/FM/CD/AUX/USB stereo was installed in the factory slot and the factory A/C is still functional thanks to an R134a refrigerant upgrade. Overhead there's a newer tight-fitting canvas convertible top that folds easily into a neat stack that preserves the back seats (well, sort of, you probably don't want adults riding back there). The boot is richly carpeted in black, adding to the luxurious look and feel of Porsche's flagship. Open the engine lid and find the strong 3.2 liter flat six, good for 217 horsepower. That doesn't sound like much, but this is a 2800 pound car, and it's plenty enough to zip by 95% of cars built today, let alone the dismal 1980's. There's a surprising amount of torque, lots of revs, and unadulterated mechanical music. 3.2-liter Carreras are known for their longevity, and thanks to conscientious maintenance (with receipts!), you don't have to worry about this one biting you in the back later. Backing the motor is a G50 five speed, which was a big upgrade over the 4-speed used until 1987. This is a VASTLY improved gearbox with a hydraulically actuated clutch and a different synchro design, giving it a truly modern feel. Put the car on a lift and there's not much to see, and that's a good thing! The motor is VERY dry, the floor pans are straight, and there are no issues to report. Heck, you can still see factory overspray on the floors! The exhaust offers a great flat-six wail that's never obnoxious and Factory 16x6 and 16x7 Fuchs wheels fill the fenders with fat Dunlop Direzza performance radials. If you're looking for a true sports car, few are as pure as a 911. If you're looking for a purchase that will hold its value AND provide years of enjoyment, this gorgeous Carrera cabriolet belongs in your garage. Call today!
