Description for Rolls-Royce Other 1983

1983 Rolls Royce Camargue!! Styled by Pininfarina of Italy. the Camargue was launched in 1974 to a mixture of awe and disbelief. It was audaciously styled. its lines reminiscent of the Continental sports saloons of the past. was it really worth almost twice as much as the Silver Shadow on which it was based? Yes. the company’s flagship. the Camargue was priced at 50 percent above the Corniche and. like the latter. used an up-rated version of Rolls-Royce’s dependable. 6. 50cc pushrod V8 engine. In keeping with tradition the power output remained undisclosed. but most testers reported a healthy improvement in acceleration above 70mph and a top speed in excess of 120mph. Rolls-Royce’s advanced split-level air conditioning system was introduced with the Camargue. later becoming standard on the Shadow II range. In all other respects though. the interior remained the traditional ‘Gentlemen’s Club on wheels’. with acres of walnut embellishment and ‑nest-quality leather. As range-topping models. the Camargue and Corniche were also the first to feature Rolls’ revised rear suspension and ride height control. Camargue production was shared between Mulliner. Park Ward in London and the Crewe factory for the first few years before being concentrated at the later plant from 1978. Produced at the rate of around one a week. the Camargue was an exclusive model even by Rolls-Royce standards. Crewe’s output totaling just 352 units by the time production ceased in 1986. of which 1 was a Bentley Camargue. The car offered here is one of only 19 hand built examples for the 1983 production year. I am listing this 1983 Camargue for friends (Peter and Sabrina) who have owned the car since 2009 but has not gotten around driving it more than a hundred miles since then and now decided the car deserves better than to sit around. They have now decided to lower the reserve on this car so it will for sure go to a new owner. Peter bought it in a well maintained condition with 52. XX Miles from supposedly the second (Seattle) owner. It shows in the owner's manual that the car was delivered new to Harry Woodnorth of Chicago (documented in the Owners handbook); the well known jaguar and Mercedes (Gullwing) race car drver who imported very exotic car from all over the world for his wealthy clients. ) He sold it new to a wealthy Iowa client who used it at his second home in Alaska. After his passing it was sold in an estate sale and still had the Alaska title under his name when Peter purchased it. Under that unfortunate event most of the paperwork of this car got lost. It was never transferred to the Seattle buyer - possibly even making this a second owner car. First of all. Peter is a car collector and has very high aesthetic standards. Being very picky and knowledgeable in the cars (mainly Rolls Royce) he purchased and collected. he has been looking for a Camargue in this color for ages - this is the color which fits him best and it's used the least in Rolls Royce's ads. He finally found the car in Seattle. He flew in with his personal vehicle inspector and even though it had some blemishes he purchased the car on the spot. He had the car transported to his home in San Francisco where he turned it over to his personal mechanic to make sure it was mechanically and optically in optimum shape. It got meticulously detailed. some parts replaced. all fluids replaced. hoses and drive train components checked and serviced. He drove the car on dealer plates and loved the feel of it so he started the process of getting a California title. Because that got botched for one reason or another he wasn’t able to drive it like he wanted. The car was delivered in Brown metallic with tan leather and it got repainted to Magnolia before he owned it. The exterior of the car is close to immaculate. it has the optional wool carpets and I’m not even talking rust as there is/was absolutely none on this car ever. It has been kept in his private garage in San Francisco and was now only taken out very seldom - (a few times to pick up the Sunday paper and having the yearly oil changes/service done) the actual reason why it is for sale now. The odometer reads around 52K original miles. All the data plates are original and in the right locations. I just smogged it last week and it is ready to go! The dash and instruments are like new. very detailed and show no signs of wear. The leather interior is in very nice shape with only some normal wear in the driver’s seat. The original headliner is superb. Both door panels and door jambs are like new. show no wear and a high degree of detail. The trunk compartment is in perfect condition. it comes with the original spare. complete tool box and all manuals. Of course it is a totally rust and accident free body shell and you can tell by every detail. Everything is super detailed and there are no damages whatsoever – the glass is perfect and the chrome superb - I hope the following pictures can give you the right impression about that: The tires are like new and the rare wheel covers very nice. Very little more can be said. the car is a rare piece. has a clean California title ready to be signed off and it should just be in the hands of a total. visually and mechanically inclined car nut.
