Description for Rolls-Royce James Young Silver Wraith 1958
1958 Rolls Royce Silver Wraith
VIN# HLW33
Presented here is a rust free rare James Young designed 1958 Rolls Royce Silver Wraith limousine ready for restoration.
The Silver Wraith was the first post war Rolls-Royce model and was made at the Crewe factory from 1946 to 1959.The long wheel based Rolls Royce chassis (133 inches) for the Silver Wraith was announced in 1951 and only 639 were made until 1959. This was the last Rolls-Royce model to be delivered in “chassis only” form, in order to receive a wide variety of bespoke coachwork designed and made by a rapidly declining number of specialist coach builders.
A finished restoration of this model sold at auction for almost $200,000 in 2014. Hagerty’s Valuation Guide (January 2017) has a #1 and #2 1958 coach built Silver Wraith valued at $290,000 and $225,000 respectively. I have been told this James Young designed Silver Wraith limousine body was apparently the only one made in 1958 and only one of sevenJames Young designed Silver Wraith limousines.
I bought this car from the previous owner in Dec 2014. He has had it in storage since the 1980’s. The engine bay has been worked on including detailing. The odometer reads 71,000 miles and is believed to be accurate but is undocumented (the leather gators that cover the rear springs are still present and in good condition). The engine is original and is a 6 cylinder 292 cu in F head with HD6 carburetors and automatic transmission. The car has recently been evaluated for restoration, and the engine does start and runs smoothly. This Silver Wraith is a right hand drive.
The chassis and body have no apparent rust. New interior carpet comes with the car. The front grill and flying lady (not attached) are in great shape. The chrome bumpers and some of the small chrome pieces are missing. All of the glass except the back window is missing. Some of the interior woodwork is missing and or needs refinishing. The interior upholstery is missing. I am selling the car as I already have another major restoration project ongoing. The car is currently in temperature controlled storage in Virginia.
In summary, this car is a great candidate for a major restoration. It is a rare coach built design, and therefore it stands to be a valued and appreciating collectable once completed. This car is sold As Is. No warranties are made, direct or implied. Pre-purchase inspections are encouraged. Initial nonrefundable $1000.00 deposit is required within 24 hours of purchase via cash or Pay Pal. The remainder is due with cash, or wire transfer within 7 days of purchase. I will assist with arranging transportation as needed, but all costs and responsibility for transport are on the buyer. This car is being advertised locally, so I hold the right to end this auction early in the event it sells locally.
