Description for Saab Other 1965
My name is Bruce Turk; I am the President of the Vintage Saab Club of North America. Last week I pulled a 1965 Monte Carlo 850 out of a garage in Bayport Long Island, NY that has been off the road for many years. V.I.N. # 313789, 73,800 miles, I have a clean New York State Transferable Registration in my name. You must have at least 10 transactions in your EBay history to bid. No new EBay members should bid, no exceptions. I will be more than happy to act as the “Restoration Butler” for the cars new owner, my assistance will be available for the duration of the restoration. I can provide part sources and step-by-step restoration advice that few others can offer. We can exchange information and photographs by e-mail, telephone, or both. I own two fully restored Monte Carlo 850’s that we can use for reference. I spent the last couple of days cleaning it up and getting it running for resale. I changed the plugs, distributor cap, rotor points and fuel filter. The car started right up and the engine runs great, no piston or crank noise at all. The clutch worked so I took it for a few spins around my property. The transmission shifts smoothly and the brakes work but stick. Just to be clear, this is a real 1965 Monte Carlo 850 with the rare “Sunshine Roof” accessory. Over the years, previous owners have done a lot of work to the car, with no effort given to preserve originality. When the original 850cc oil injected, triple carb, Monte Carlo engine seized, it was replaced with a standard 850cc mixer (non-oil injected) single carb engine. I do not have the original engine, but I can put the new owner in touch with a friend that has an oil injected triple carb engine for sale. It is not a Monte Carlo engine (higher compression) but rather a standard compression unit. It will look just like the original Monte Carlo engine if you paint the block red . The rear seat lower cushion is not from a Monte Carlo, the seat was replaced with a standard 96 cushion because the previous owner’s kids complained about the hard seat. The wooden box section that goes under the cushion is long gone but I can put the seller in touch with a friend that has a Monte Carlo rear seat box section for sale. You will have to locate or make the actual cushions yourself. This car left the factory with 4-bolt hubs. When they were no longer serviceable, the previous owner removed them and installed five bolt hubs (front disc and rear drum). It never occurred to him to keep the four bolt hubs, but I can put the new owner in touch with a friend that has a set for sale. The driver’s side door window doesn’t roll up and down; I haven’t investigated the cause. I have taken many photos that clearly show what restoring this car will entail. The way I see it you have two choices: 1) Drive it as a Rat Rod, the car oozes with patina. The car runs well. If you sort out the brakes, replace the heater hoses and sort out the incidental mechanicals, you can be driving the living crap out of this car in no time! 2) Take a deep breath and go for the full Monte---- take the car apart, right down to the shell, put it on a rotisserie for a long visit with your welder. If you plan to do the work yourself and have never done this type of work before, forget about it. I have sources in Europe for rocker panels and floor panels, if you are so inclined. If you do not see a particular part in the photos, they are not included with the car. What you see is what you get. Period. The car is sold, AS IS, no warranty, no refunds. Feel free to come and see the car in person before bidding! I can also provide more photos by request. PAYMENT by USA residents: $200 non-refundable PayPal deposit due within 48 hours of auctions end. The car must be picked up within two weeks of auctions end. Payment balance by cash or certified check at the time of pick up. PAYMENT by NON- USA residents: PayPal deposit due within 48 hours of auctions end. Payment in FULL by Paypal ONLY within 1 week of auctions end. YOU will be responsible for providing all transportation from my home in Walden, NY to the port. I will not correspond with your carrier or freight forwarder until AFTER PayPal CONFIRMS payment has cleared. The car must be off my property within 4 weeks of auctions end.
