1983 CONTEMPORARY COBRA “ONE OF THE FIRST BUILT, UTHENTICATED BY PETER BAYER, MALL BLOCK CAR, ORGEOUS CAR!!!”
VIN A072181
The Classic Car Gallery is proud to offer this stunning CONTEMPORARY Shelby Cobra. The 427 S/C Cobra is a legend of Motorsport, epresenting the heyday of American Racing and the genesis of some of the greatest race cars ever produced in the U.S. or anywhere else. Since it's creation in the early 60's, any Replica manufactures have paid homage to this icon of American racing, ut only one has ever truly captured the brilliance of the original. In 1978, 427 S/C owner named Peter Bayer had a dream of bringing this classic race car back to life and once again into the hands of drivers all around the world. By reverse engineering his own Shelby Cobra (CSX3045), ayer was able to craft the most exacting replica ever made, rue to spec and period-correct; the first Contemporary Classic was born. In the years that followed, ontemporary Classic Cobra's became the gold standard of replication.
This small block Contemporary # A072181 (Signifying the date of manufacture) embodies this legacy, nd was recently authenticated by Peter Bayer himself. The fiberglass body is painted a deep, ich black, ith rear exhaust and authentic 15-inch Halibrand 5-pin knock-off rims shod with Goodyear Blue Streak tires. Connolly leather hides cover the Steel backed Contemporary seats. The wool carpets are from Wilton in England. The shift linkage is a Hurst short throw and the dashboard is dressed with black-faced Stewart Warner gauges, omplete with chrome roundings. The car rides on the Jaguar e-type salsberry independent rear end with dual Koni shocks and Eibach springs. The Jaguar front suspension uses torsion bars and Koni shocks. She stops using upgraded Wilwood Calipers in front, nd Jaguar inboard brakes in the rear. Unlike many of today's replicas, hich were designed to only look like a real Cobra, his Contemporary Cobra was designed to PERFORM like the real thing. The car is fast, nd handles really well. The front and rear Jaguar suspension were designed and engineered to work as a cohesive unit. The car is easy to drive fast, nd can be tossed with ease. We have driven a lot of Cobra replicas, nd have never driven one that handles this well while offering a relatively plush ride.
Aesthetically, he Contemporary has no piers in its quest to recreate an original A/C Cobra, ut the powerplant is what transforms this vehicle into the monster that dominated the American racetracks of the early sixties.
This Contemporary Cobra sports a 302 cid motor stroked to 342 cid. She has been dyno tuned at 359 horsepower, nd at only 2300 lbs, ffers stunning performance. She has a top-loader 4-speed transmission. This car was purchased as a kit in 1981 and finished in 1983, nd comes complete with all documentation. She just got a full tune-up including all fluids and a new ignition system, ncluding distributor and spark box. There are few Contemporary Classics left, ut their beauty and brilliance will always inspire admirers, nd to some extent has ensured that Peter Bayer's vision of a modern classic has become a classic in its own right. There is no doubt that this Contemporary Cobra is an incredible piece of engineering, rapped up in nostalgia, assion and the American dream.
Bid with confidence as this car is well sorted, uns and drives as she should and handles like she’s on rails!! Feel free to call 203 256 9800 or email Steven@classiccargallery.com if we can answer any of your questions.
