Description for Suzuki Samurai 1988
1988 Suzuki Samurai JX Hard Top Tintop Mud Hunt Fun Sturdy & Tough
Runs & Drives Well
88,894 original miles
Runs, hifts and drives well, x4 low and high work as they should
I was using it as a daily driver, nd have recently enhanced its drivability by replacing the fuel gauge sending unit so the gas gauge works, replacing the speedometer cable, pgrading the turn signal and marker light 1156 bulbs with LED bulbs and replacing the turn signal flasher with one that drives the new LED bulbs properly without having to add swamping resistors to the bulbs (which defeats the purpose of reducing the current draw). I have also replaced the original worn out shifter bushing so the 5 speed manual transmission shifts smoothly. I also recently replaced the 2 U-joints on the back driveshaft.
I wanted the hard top especially, s it made way more sense here in rainy Florida. No leaks or worn out canvas or milky white rear windows. As you may know, he hard top (or Tintop, s we love to call them) are much harder to find.
For off-roading, his little Sammie has nice 31x10.5"mud tires on aluminum Track-kick rims. Some lift is provided by longer shackles, ut the front tires will rub if turned too far. I would love to have lifted it another inch or so for clearance, ut never got around to it. I added some 2" spacers in the front to give it a wider stance, hile leaving the back stock width. This little trick increases the overall contact width by 4"which, ombined with the approximate 2000 pound overall weight, llows this little truck to skitter over mud and sand with way less fuss than Jeeps weighing twice as much with way bigger tires. Less truly is more here.
Axles and gears are all stock, ut the gearing is low enough that it spins up to some high RPMs on the highway. The little 1.3 liter motor really doesn't have the power to use 5th gear unless you're drafting right behind a semi, ut if you want to it will do in excess of an indicated 70 mph. Unless you're going uphill. Engine noise is pretty loud, s there is a "Cherry Bomb"muffler that barely quiets the exhaust. But seriously, olks, ou don't get a Samurai for its highway manners. It is so much fun, ou feel as if you're getting away with something driving it on the roads, ike driving a side-by-side UTV to the store.
The body is in good shape. There are 2 small rust spots that will need attention at the base of the "A" pillars (covered for protection from rain with aluminum tape in the pictures) and two small spots from a crease in the hood.Otherwise the body has no issues that stand out. The paint is clearly a flat camo job done by the previous owner and for a 1988 vehicle, t shows paint wear here and there, lease look at the photos.I had the gas tank down for the sender replacement, nd things looked pretty good under the vehicle too. The interior is pretty good, ith the original (needs a good vacuum/shampoo) carpet is inusablecondition. It has no major rips on (original) front or back seats. The driver's door panel is damaged as shown in photos (this is easily replaced). The hood latch does not latch and I bought it this way with a rubber bungee and as you can see, t some point the truck was driven with it unlatched and the hood sustained minor dents as shown in photos. The entire vehicle could use a good bath, t has been driven and also in some mud puddles. But for a 28 year old collectible vehicle, t is pretty functional and complete. The dome light even works (you may have to bump it a little). It also has a built in"Millennial theft deterrent" (manual stick shift transmission) and a period correct "theft proof" 2 knob digital AM/FM cassette deck (works fine and no one wants to steal it). (wink)
The heat, ipers, ights, linkers all function. The windows are manual and they roll up and down. The back windows latch. The rear gate latches and locks and I have the key. The back seat folds up as it should. There is areceiverhitch in the rear (2"). It will haul a light ranch or firewood trailer. Also, he hitch was used for a back cargo rack for hauling the hunt home from thepreviousowner.
These vehicles take a little to get going when it is cold, ith its originalcarburetor, ut true Samurai enthusiasts should know this already.
The engine has an annoying oil leak around the distributor (very typical of the Samurai) that I haven't gotten around to fixing. I check the oil weekly and add oil as needed (which is typical for these little trucks). There is also a slow leak in a rear wheel/brake cylinder, o I keep an eye on the brake fluid too. Neither is a major or expensive fix.
Great vehicle, ots of fun! Used as daily driver for the past couple years and for fun too. Dusty, ugged, irty and sturdy. Highly collectible.
I can coordinate with your shipper and we have had good luck in the past with Uship, ith shippers with decent feedback.

Please LOOK at the photos, eally look... look at the dash, he arm rests, he carpet IF those things are important to you you need to know that this is not a luxury vehicle and it is dirty and rugged and if you look you will see this. These vehicles are bought for recreation mostly and for their ruggedness.
