Description for Suzuki Other 1980
This is a 1997 Suzuki Jimny Land Venture Final Edition. In the US we got the Samurai which is essentially the same thing but with a boring engine. I imported this from Japan this year and it was my daily driver while I was living in Japan. I bought it from Jimny Land near Fukuoka, Japan that specializes in restoration of the older models. Since the new Jimny has a 2 year wait, this has become a more popular option for the same amount of money.
Once I purchased it, over the next four months they began an entire restoration. The entire inside and out was painted in Ferrari Red (I have a small bottle for touch ups) and then the diamond plate panels were added. The entire interior was removed and refinished, and diamond plate was added in the interior. There is also a diamond plate cup holder and diamond plate holder on the passenger side of the dash. The carpet was replaced and the interior roof was finished in a wood panel. All of the seats are exceptionally clean and are covered with leather seat covers. I installed the Bride seat and seat bracket which was made specifically for this model in a collaboration with Taniguchi. The original driver seat with leather cover is included. All of the interior lights and gauges work and LEDs were installed everywhere possible. The stereo was replaced with a single DIN Carrozzeria top of the line model. I got this special ordered from Autobacs and was lucky enough to receive it before the release date. The stereo is fully digital and compatible with any Bluetooth device for hands free calling. I installed an Infinity Kappa Perfect 5 1/4 inch component set which required modification of the mounting points as it was only originally able to take 3 inch speakers. I have the additional Infinity Kappa Perfect 3' speakers that are designed to be added to the component set crossovers as a mid-range speaker, but have not installed them yet. The infinity Bass-link 8 inch compact amp is mounted under the passenger seat and the door speaker amplifier and crossovers are mounted under the driver seat. The idea was to keep the cleanest install possible and none of these items are visible unless you are looking for them. The Momo steering wheel is an authentic model and is in great shape. The shift lever was replaced last week. The engine was also overhauled and many items replaced to include a turbo rebuild, new alternator, new water pump, ac overhaul, distributer replaced, and all fluids, belt, and many gaskets replaced. A turbo timer has been added that has remote start, but I have had the remote start disabled since it is a manual transmission. All lights on the exterior were replaces and all bulbs changed to LED. The grill was a custom job that was quite expensive but it really adds to the look. The suspension was all replaced and it now has a 2 1/2 inch lift. A HKS cat-back exhaust was installed and the exhaust manifold, down pipe, cold air intake, and turbo actuator are still on order in Japan. The wheels were all repainted and new tires installed. These are the factory size as sold in Japan and are Yokohama mud terrain tires. The entire truck is free of rust and has almost no noticeable damage. There is a mark on the front left corner where some paint was rubbed off and another spot where someone hit it with there door. $1000 of the purchase price is to be used to fix this, or I will discount it by that price and you can do what you want with it. It is a 25 year old vehicle, so some of the items under the hood may be a little old, but all of the important items have been delt with. The 4-wheel drive works perfect, and the clutch and brakes are strong. As this was a special edition, this is the old body style with the newer engine and ABS. The land venture edition also included the dash mounted compass and altimeter unit as well as the roof rack. The compass and altimeter works perfect and the roof rack was replaced with one of the last three factory roof racks still available for this model.
Essentially, this is the closest thing you can get to a new classic right-hand drive car without getting too crazy on prices. The speedometer is in kilometers but speeding in this isn't really going to be an issue. Although you would be sitting on the opposite side of the vehicle, all the controls are the same and you are only shifting with the opposite hand. Getting used to driving on the wrong side of the car isn't much of an issue either since it is quite narrow. This is registered in Washington State as that is where I am a resident, but it is located in California because that is where the military put me.
It is a little slow but is very tunable. My previous Jimny I had increased to boost to approximately 13lbs and it was a much better driving experience. Unlike the Samurai's that are in the US, this one is drivable at normal highway speeds, but the ride isn't the best with such a short wheel base. I have driven it around 3000 miles since the work was completed and I have all documentation for the original purchase, shipping, and importation. I have the clean title in hand. The buyer is responsible for shipping, but I am willing to work with them to make it as easy and practical as possible.
Insurance has been figured out and is currently through Hagarty. They offer the best rate and allow me to specify value for the purposes of full coverage.
I am willing to send more pictures or take a video call but if you are in the southern California you can see it in person. The VIN listed is incorrect as Japanese Kei cars have a shorter VIN that doesn't work with eBay's software so all of the zeros at the end should be removed.
